Tunnels from L.A. to D.C.

During the Cold War, the U.S. was obsessed with nuclear war, how to prevent it, and what to do if it happened.

Because of this, there are many deep-underground bunkers scattered throughout the States, for military command and/or personnel housing and protection, such as the Greenbrier Bunker and the bunker under the Executive Mansion.

The U.S. would have required instant, reliable communications during a nuclear war, for obvious reasons; and as such, wireless communication methods such as the radio would have been out of the question because of the massively powerful electromagnetic pulse a nuclear weapon detonation would release. These pulses would disrupt wireless comms for weeks, and would take out quite a few satellites, despite the so called safety measures installed.

In my opinion the American Government would have relied on land-lines for coast-to-coast communication, copper wires initially and fibre-optic cables as technology advanced.

These land-lines could not have been set up on the surface or anywhere near it. Blast waves would render the lines inoperable. The lines would have had to be approximately 60 or more yards underground.

My point is, these lines were so important that they would have had to be fully functional at all times. Taking into this equation earth-quakes, faulty and old equipment, and natural geological shifts, the lines would have failed quite regularly, considering how many miles of them there would have to be. So therefore the quickest option would have been to include maintenance tunnels along with the tunnels that house the cables, or include both in one tunnel.

If you take this last fact into consideration, and think about the argument that there are networks of subterrian tunnels spider-webbing themselves across the U.S. continent, then you have a very plausible scenario.

These comm tunnels must exist. We did not have laser messaging services in the 1950s/60s/70s. These tunnels must have needed maintenance.

Of course, there are the issues of masking the construction of the tunnels, and keeping the workers quiet, but that is what I wrote this thread for.

So, what do we think? Would these tunnels exist?

Of course they do. And add to that the fact that people all over the southwest hear explosions all the time.....

You dont think that specially this government is going to cause such chaos and not want to protect itself? As we are all turning to ashes, they, those cowards, will be speeding through the tunnels in order to save their hide.

After all, that is the purpose of all this chaos.
