Area 19 just for development?

Well, there isn't that much info on area 19 floating around. The only signifigant things about it are the power lines and the dissapearing airstrip.

What if the power line is just there in case they need to develop the area?


It makes sense, but in one other way it doesn't make sense. Why would they stop it here? Why not just add on to the wire when they were ready to develop?

Also the airstrip might point in the direction that the area isn't only for development purposes. If they wanted to fly an airplane, why not just take off on the better runway of area 51?

Maybe the wetted dirt runway is to test the landing capabilities of a plane on a non-paved runway?

It seems kind of strange that these two things would come together at one spot. But is there really anything to signify that area 19 is really a base?

I'm not sure why people keep obsessing about Area 19. It was developed in the mid-1960s for high-yield underground nuclear tests, mostly for Los Alamos National Laboratory. A total of 35 tests were conducted in Area 19, the last taking place in 1992.
