First 2006 Debate Tournament

hey everyone im back...sorry about not being able to compete..i ended up landing myself in jail so yeah...so i had my buddy get on here and write the mod to take me out....so how is everyone?

Wow, you mean cops actually arrest people? How did you swing that one?

I stood toe to toe with a commander in his station, sang three coruses of the 4-letter seranade for him, and told him his department couldn't find its genitals with both hands and a flashlight.

Of course... the fact that we were talking about a botched murder investigation and that there was a reporter outside waiting to hear from me might have had a lot to do with their decision to politely ask me to leave instead of beating me senseless and jailing me.

I am not sure how a melee would work... I am willing to explore it. the problem is we could have an overall winner who,has only won one debate...

Why dont we do a mini league style thing,where each of the remaing players play each other, look back at debates in this tournament, 2points for a win, 1 for a by... then each of the remaining players play each other, and get points accordingly. Then the person with the most points wins...

I would like to say it is not fair on Rdube02 or I, who have both had to fight for only one to go through,and some who havent had a debate finish will go through for a chance to win the pennant. I realise this is no ones fault, but kind of defeats the point of a debate competiton.

Right thats my winge over. Though whatever happens the last thing I want to see is the debate cancelled..

Now, come on Big D I've earned it just like the rest of you whether you choose to see that or not. See, this was the reason I was going to withdraw after my first opponent forfeited. I KNEW someone would consider my advancement unworthy.

Confed, sorry to hear of your mishap, and i'm glad you're ok. Would you like to finish the debate now so I can prove myself to BIG D or not? I'm sure Nygdan would be understanding about it.

I'd say getting jailed is a valid excuse for the delay - my vote is to let them continue to duke it out!!

Looks like somebody's scared of the big bad Vagabond . It's not my fault that nobody stands their ground against me, and I don't take kindly to the suggestion that I be penalized for it.

The bottom line is that you're suggesting that even if I beat you (and I will), you should still have a chance of winning. Your proposal is a little underhanded by my way of thinking. The bottom line is that whoever wins out of the last 2 or 3 people standing is the better fighter.

Even if the people who bailed on me had a chance of winning, then if I can beat you odds are they would have done it too.


Do as you like to even the score, but I tell you something, if and when I tar and feather the remaining debators, I don't expect to see them declared the winner just because they won a few lesser rounds before losing to me.


Edit to add: More to the point, let confed back in. He's got a legit excuse. Also if mem shows up before that debate ends, let's get him back in here against me.

Good grief, Vagabond is everything always about you????? I think it was about the both of us. Ummm you know since BOTH of us have won our debates by forfeit (well you haven't won this one yet) and if we win the next round that would be THE ONE debate we would have won fair and square. Get it??? Pheeew.

I really am an arrogant SOB I'm afraid. No exclusion was intended to you though. I am operating under the assumption however that I can probably take you.

(By the by- I know I'm being fiercely competitive here. I put my war-face on for these debates. Although I suppose it may cause some of you to be down on me, I assure you I hold no grudges over innocent competition. When this tourney is over, regardless of results, I'll be about as friendly as I know how with all of you once again- even BigDan.)

hmmm as much as i appriciate the gesture of letting me back in...i will have to decline...this jail thing has created a string of problems in my life right now that im despritely trying to fix...(thus thats why im posting slower than normal) i have much to do...and it could be days before i post again.....infact if i dont get one thing done by tonight..im going back to jail....but dont forget i would love to challenge you zen....your freakin awesome lol.....sorry i have to let you down good luck to everyone thats left

myself and kenshiro duked it out admirably in the first round. I was defeated and had to drop out, while others moved on without having to complete a debate. Its the way it goes. I don't see how the rules would change in this round.

It's unfortunate that Confed can't hang around. The big question though seems to be if and when Ken and/or Grim will show up, if at all.

I can see a couple of ways to go about this if neither of them shows up.

The winner between myself and Zen could face off against the loser between Dan and Rdube before (assuming they don't lose) advancing to the final. That might satisfy Dan's concerns, and it preserves the single-elimination principle.

We could take the melee. It'd be interesting, it would take a week less than the idea above, and honestly I don't see how that gives any advantage to those of us who have had buys- either Zen or I can win and prove one of us is the best, or we can't, regardless of who didn't stick around to get beat.

(truth be told, I think either of us would have a lot of bias to overcome, depending on who the judges are, simply because our opponents haven't been able to stick around, but I suppose there's not much we can do about that except pull out all the stops and hope the judges notice.)

I wasnt saying anything against anyone, all I was saying is I can see a problem with a melee. We need to make sure that the winner has duked it out as well. I was asked for my opinion on the situation. I didnt expect to get flamed.
If I upset anyone I am sorry. I thought I was voicing legitamate concerns.

Personally I have no problem taking on Vagabond on equal footing with no point system in place. In fact, I'd have no problem taking on Vagabond with one hand tied behind my back, standing on one foot, and blindfolded.

Another possibility is let Vagabond and zenlover duke it out to completion in a new debate - the winner of that debate can go up against the winner of our debate? Just an idea.
