I recently got my hands on Voice Changer 4.0 Diamond. Basically it lets you change the pitch, etc of your voice so you can sound like how terrorists sound when they make phonecalls during hostage situations. I ahve started to use it to prank friends etc.

I have two questions regarding this matter:

Are there any legal implications when using this software over the phone. One call to an random person I asked to ask my trademark question: "Are you ready?" and they replied with the usual "Ready for what?". Around this point I normally say: "Ready for death!" but putting myself in this guys situation I would be pretty scared if some1 told me that kind of thing so i dropped the call after he asked the ready for what question. I mean that could constitute as a murder threat.

Second and more important Question:
While i was using the software I had the phone on loud speaker and had my pc speakers next to it so that my voice went in through the mike port out through the speakers. This resulted in feedback as there is a slight delay in the program so the other end hears my normal voice first then my changed voice. Is there any cable or way that i can connect my line out audio port to my phone line so that tho only thing the person hears is that? I know there is a way to have the phone go into the line in by modding an old 56k modem thus one can record phone conversations on ones pc. Any ideas?

I don't know the answer to the first question, but in answer to the second question, you need to do a bit of research about the laws in your state. Some states allow telephone recordings if the person on one end of the telephone conversation knows its being recorded, some states require that both parties know that it is being recorded.

Nice reading skills, he doesn't mention recording

You'll have to open up the the phone where your microphone is, strip an audio cable, connect the wires, plug it in your line out on your soundcard, microphone in your pc and you should be ready to go.

First one: any illegal call made using a voice scrambler is just as illegal as a call made not using one. Like you realized... making a death threat in either case is a nono. Unless you're bouncing through a Vatican PBX or something of that nature. Then you're good!

Second one: already answered. splice into the mic line. A cordless phone would work best for this. Just keep the output volume low so it doesnt distort horribly.

Not to mention that the government most certainly can just descramble your voice, and compare it with their voice database they got with all their illegal eavesdropping. They will have your name in no time.

But go ahead.

It's not illegal here in Rhode Island to use voice scrambling in phone calls. It is not illegal to record phone conversations as long as one party is aware (Aka you). But it IS illegal to record other peoples conversations that you are not a party too if they are unaware.

I don't know the law regarding this..
However, Here at work we have a cordless phone, with voice changing ability
built-in..
panasonic kx-tg5439.

We discovered it accidentally...because we never read the manuals on simple consumer items, like phones..LOL..

We've had a little fun with it, I must confess..
