Old Earth Creationism

I was raised a protestant by my mom then a few years back she became a catholic. Anyway she always believed the traditional protestant belief that the Earth is young, but a couple days ago she decided that this has to be wrong due to scientific evidence that the Earth is much older. My mom does not believe we evolved out of apes.
(also I'm not part of any religion)

Anyway are there any here who believe in Old Earth creation and God?

Of course the earth is old. Very old. Some very notable Christian researchers say so, too. Rather interesting ... considering some of the bible was once used to 'prove' the earth was anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000 years old. Depending upon which group you held most faith in. It's only recently has religous belief adopted and reinterpreted the bible to include and old earth world view, as now they don't really have a choice seeing all the evidence supporting it. Same applies with evolution, another recent adoption and reinterpretation of the bible in an attempt to "prove" it right. Whereas, it wasn't that long ago that the bible was used to argue against evolution. Or, how about the flat earth, the bible was once used to argue that the earth was indeed flat. Heck, f the book of enoch was never dropped they would've had a better chance to argue it as it was a flat earth book. There's still people today who use the bible to argue the earth is flat. Another example of recent adoption and reinterpretation to "prove" the bible true. I'm surprised no one of faith can see how their religous belief's and interpretation's have to evolve along with society and discoveries. It's so painfully obvious. Bring jesus back to our time and you'd all, yes ALL, would be labeled blasphemous heathens bound for hell.

PC, the catholic church has actually stated that evolution is acceptable within the faith, that its a scientific theory and that its not in conflict with the faith.

Interesting that she accepts that the earth is old, based on scientific evidence, but doesn't accept that man evolved from apes, even though the same quality of evidence exists for that. Do you think she could come here and explain that to us??

As far as old earth creationism in general, its one of the varieties of creationism, usually presented in opposition to Young Earth Creationism. However, thats a little inaccurate, or at least OECism is very varied within itself. Some people beleive in an original creation of all the kinds of animals in a very distant past, others beleive in continuous or occasional creation (likesay, creation of a reptile age, destrcution, creation of a mammal age, destruction, etc).

The big difference starts with the Creation Week. OECists almost all don't beleive that god created everything in a six 24-hour day period, so in a sense they aren't Biblical Literalists, likewith YECists.
