I read somewhere a long time ago that the pyramids were covered in smoth white marble. I wonder if this is true and if so could the spinx have been covered with something too. It was said the Romans took all of the marble and built a city with it. Does anyone know of this? If the pyramids were shiny smooth marble objects maybe they reflected light to space as a kind of runway for aliens

they were covered by white polished limestone. Marble wasnt readily available in egypt it was the greeks that were blessed with marble
As for the sphynx i couldnt tell you but at one time it probably was white and polished as well

As Jack said, it was polished limestone.

The Sphynx was painted but was not covered in marble (they didn't have any way of cementing it to an irregular surface like the face.

That’s what I thought but since the legend didn’t say specifically I just thought I should leave it as is.

Yeah smooth limestone

I think some people even think that the Great Pyramid had a small Gold pyramidion cap on top. Could you imagine how that would look glittering in the sun with the smooth white walls.

It would have been truely a awe inspiring sight

Exactly i never heard of anything black on top but i was understood that there was a gold cap at the top, i agree i bet it was absolutley beautiful much like some of the greek and Roman buildings.
