You know I read the other day that scientists were baffled as to why this was moving so quickly when for the last 5 yrs it has been virtually isolated in the Asian countries. Migratory paths have been the same as well.

In addition to that I also read it was only 2 mutations away from being sustainable in humans. I actually don't feel like it's going to make that leap this time around though. Don't know why just something I feel.

DDAY..

As far I I know, H5N1 aquired the ability to infect the long range migrating waterfowl last year at Qinghai Lake in China. It killed off most of the hosts before recombining to a less virulent form in order to propagate in it's new hosts. This new variant also picked up the human polymorphism E627K which had never before been seen in avian viral componets. This is the varient that showed up in Turkey and the now the surrounding areas.

Beware. H5N1 is not done yet!
