Rolling Blackouts in Denver

Our below zero temperatures have been causing as many problems inside as they have outside.

X-cel energy used rolling blackouts through the Denver-area because of a shortage of natural gas.

300,000 total customers were affected. Thirty minute blackouts hit 100,000 customers at a time.

Power was restored by mid-morning but blackouts are possible again with cold temperatures remaining through the day.

In Colorado Springs... no major problems.

Colorado Springs utilities doesn't anticipate shortages overnight, but suggest conserving energy if possible.

Looks like the utility companies weren't prepared for a cold snap. Anyone here affected?

that's why we should be using nuclear power for our energy needs and not natural gas.
Honda and Climate Energy Launch New Energy Technology for the Home

all new houses that use natural gas heat should be using the system that Honda and Climate Energy have. that way we are making electricity and heating houses at the same time. then you wouldn't have rolling blackouts

ads reactors can be built walk away safe and when fueled properly they can reduce waste to short halflifed/ low level waste. instead of 20k and 30k halflife waste

This kind of thing is just beginning.

It shows just how tight energy supplies are and our vulnerability to peak oil.

before electricity most large cities had gas production facilities, like Seattle's gas works park, which converted coal into gas for heat and lighting.

because of cheaper natural gas and electricity these plants were shut down and some turned into parks like in seattle or boulevard park Bellingham.

Maybe when prices get high enough again you will see coal gas plants crop up again

My first 26 in Grand Lake and the other 14 here in Denver and we have never had any problems like this until Xcel took over. When it was public service we had weeks of 25 below zero in Denver and nobody ever worried about this B.S. I would encourage any and all who suffered to sue Xcel Energy. I would also ask that all Insurance Companies who had to pay out because of the lack of Natural Gas to sue the hell out of Xcel Energy as well. All local law enforcement should sue them for the over time and anything else they can. The whole situation is that Xcel is a monopoly and needs to be destroyed, their corporate officers convicted and hanged for fraud.....
