Greenland's glaciers have begun moving faster, almost doubling the rate at which they dump ice into the Atlantic Ocean within the last five years, new satellite images reveal. The data has sparked warnings that experts have underestimated how much sea levels will rise in the future.
"We are witnessing enormous changes," says Eric Rignot from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at Caltech in Pasadena, California, US. "These are very active glaciers," he adds.
