Wpc Rachel Brown is shot and seriously injured whilst trying to aprehend a burglar in the Lenton area of Nottingham early this morning.

Police said the incident occurred shortly before midnight when two officers, an experienced male officer and Rachael Bown, 25, a probation officer, were called to a burglary in the Lenton area of Nottingham and tried to stop a man nearby.

"The suspect produced a firearm and shot one of the officers," a Nottinghamshire police spokeswoman said.

Another shooting of a unarmed police officer here in Britain, coming so soon after the death of one officer and the wounding of another in west yorkshire last november.

Surely this will again raise some questions as to the Uk policy on arming officers ?

As well as a further blow to Nottinghams reputation as the UKs gun crime capital
