Bypassing blocks...or enabling port 443

First off, port 443:

I've enabled port forwarding on my router, totally uninstalled my firewall, and disabled the Windows firewall, but the port is still blocked. This one is really bothering me. That port needs to be opened for me to use Circumventor, a block bypass program.

If this is not possible, is there a better way to bypass school blocks on internet than Circumventor? All anonymizer sites are blocked, and so are translator sites, so those are out of the question.

Maybe it's locked from the service or computer managment.
Some aplications may be shut off, windows aplications that use specific ports when you shut them down has a service they usualy influence other things.
Some times when you have a service pack the service pack can disable from start some services and that can cause your problem.
Maybe it's from there, it's worth a try.
I take it you have win XP

Control panel- administrative tools - component services - services (it should be there last on the list)

You can activate or desactivate futures of the windows there , see what is locked and wahts not, i would try activateing all of them if they are locked.

But wach what you do there, the best way is to activate the ones that are disabled, the problem is that the service pack disables some things for security reason, activateing all the things will there can casue vurnerabilies.
What you can do is note on a pice of paper what you activated, and after that if it works try desctivateing the ones you have noted one by one and try in betwen to see if it still works until you find the one that is causing the problems.
After that you can desactivate back the ones you have noted down exept the one that you need active.
Wach on what you click disable, some times failure of service might mean windows install, so the ones already active just leave them like that.

Why would 443 be blocked? That's https...I guess no one where you are can do any online shopping or banking?

So are you trying to get to some sites which are blocked from your PC?

In that case RTFM would be solution.

You don't actually install the Circumventor on the computer that is blocked from accessing Web sites. You, or a friend of yours, has to install the Circumventor on some other machine which is not censored.


And I wouldn't suggest activating any more services, most of those running at defaults hog enough resources while only some of them are necessary.




1: What you want to achieve?
2: What achieving it needs? What changes it causes?
3: Is it even possible to get it working??


And never connect Windows PC to any network without firewall!
(NAT doesn't protect it if you forward ports through it)

First of all, trying to bypass blocks at school will probably get you into a lot of trouble. It is more than likely that your school has some kind of internet code set up governing the use of the school's network resources. Violation of this code could be grounds for expulsion. My friend was nearly expelled for bypassing filtering software.

Second of all, though I am not firmiliar with the software package Circumventer, I can guess that all it does is set up a proxy server through which internet traffic is directed. This could possibly be against the Terms of Use of your service provider which can lead to suspension of services or in some cases further legal action.

Lastly, port 443 is secure HTTP. Even with your firewall at default configuration, it would probably still be open. It is probably blocked from your school's network and therefore an administrator must unblock it. One of the reasons HTTPs is blocked on school networks is because SSL connections are not monitored or blocked by filtering software due to their secure nature so it makes more sense to just block them.

Hello If anyone reads this.
I know this a 3 year old thread, but It came up as one of the first on google, and might be just what I was looking for.

These days, At schools and Unis (in the United Kingdom at least) put up with a fair bit of firewall bypassing. Generally Social networking sites and flash games only require a proxy site set to https.

I have been using the program Your Freedom. www.your-freedom.net
It is a circumvention program that uses every method under the sun to connect to websites, and allow programs like World of Warcraft, to be used via one of the many available your freedom servers. So far, this is unblockable. I am using its UDP function at the moment, on the free mode, which uses very limited bandwidth.

I and many others used to use the Https function on this program quite happily, playing a large variety of games and apps though its port 443.

somehow, this has been blocked, but Udp now seems to work. port 53.

Udp I have found tends to lose packets If put under very heavy load, and is slower than https. Are there any alternative ports to https? Thanks for reading if you did.
