KING FUNERAL TURNS POLITICAL: BUSH BASHED BY FORMER PRESIDENT, REVEREND

...Today's memorial service for civil rights activist Coretta Scott King -- billed as a "celebration" of her life -- turned suddenly political as one former president took a swipe at the current president, who was also lashed by an outspoken black pastor!

The outspoken Rev. Joseph Lowery, co-founder of Southern Christian Leadership Conference, ripped into President Bush during his short speech, ostensibly about the wife of Martin Luther King Jr...

Former President Jimmy Carter later swung at Bush as well, not once but twice.

They don't look very happy do they???

I have never seen Laura Bush look that way.

It's gettin' ugly folks...

EDIT: It occurs to me that she looks like Leona Helmsley!

That was hilarious. I just watched the video here on Crooks and Liars. After the Rev. criticizes the war, he gets a 20 second standing ovation. Be sure to watch to the end to see the look on Bush's face as the Rev. leaves the stage.

You liked that picture, BH? I don't know if I can accept that... It's really hard to believe...No clues, no "whammy" evidence or anything...

That is a great picture, though. What's odd is that it appears she's not looking in the direction of the rev, but at the camera. Dunno what that means, just an observation.

Oh, and I don't want Lowery eulogizing any of my loved ones; I'd rather remember them than learn his opinion on politics. That's just me, though; I may be strange.

"Former President Jimmy Carter later swung at Bush as well, not once but twice. As he talked about the Kings, he said: "It was difficult for them then personally with the civil liberties of both husband and wife violated as they became the target of secret government wiretaps." "

Above quote taken from the linked article.

It would seem that Prez. Carter was bashing Prez. Kennedy here, as Kennedy was in the White House when the wiretapping of the Kings took place.

Sorry loam, I read the article and edited my post to remove the question before I saw you reply.

Dad Slams Attack On Bush At King Rite

Former President George H.W. Bush has expressed dismay and anger at attacks on his son, President Bush, at the funeral for Coretta Scott King.

"In terms of the political shots at the president who was sitting there with his wife, I didn't like it and I thought it was kind of ugly frankly," the former president said in an exclusive radio interview with CBS News White House correspondent Peter Maer.

"Anybody that shoots at the president of the United States at a funeral, I just didn't appreciate that," Mr. Bush added.

Gee, what a surprise....

Take a look at this photo timeline:

In the first two pictures, Jr. is just havin' a grand ole time...

I watched the Vid link Logan provided and noticed at the end how the black pastor goes down the line shaking hands with all but the Bush clan who move him along...

laughed out loud? ...I almost spat my drink onto my monitor.

Great video. I wish we had some speakers like that over here. I love watching a someone stick the boot in so eloquently.

Gee, I remember reading other posts by some of these ATS'ers that bemoan the lack of civility and common decency. I wonder what's different here?

Something about a cartoon...

Did you even watch the vid? I see no point where he was anything other than civil and decent.

Not what I'm talking about at all. And it's a matter of opinion whether using a funeral for advancing a political agenda is civil, anyway.

Your response is puzzling after hearing you say you love seeing someone getting a boot stuck up their arse.

I have to agree with jsobecky on this one...very inappropriate and disrepectful. Just a reminder to me why I almost always vote either indepenent, small party, or republican...because any party who forwards their agenda in that manner is completely unacceptable.

Well, I guess we all have our own standards. If that was my funeral, I'd be looking down and grinning like a Cheshire cat.

Ah, but that's the point. It wasn't your funeral. And funerals, whomever the honored person might be, are about honoring that person...not pushing personal agendas.
