Boston newspaper exposes 1/4 million credit card numbers, page 1

SAN FRANCISCO - Two newspapers owned by The New York Times Co., the Boston Globe and Worcester (Massachusetts) Telegram & Gazette, said Tuesday they had mistakenly sent out slips of paper with credit card data of up to nearly a quarter million subscribers.

The credit card numbers were been printed on routing slips attached to 9,000 bundles of newspapers sent to retailers and carriers last weekend, according to the newspapers.

"Immediate steps have been taken internally at the Globe and Telegram & Gazette to increase security around credit card reporting," Richard H. Gilman, publisher of the Boston Globe, said in a statement.

Apparently it happened because they used recylced paper, with the credit card info on the other side! They have a hotline number: 1-888-665-2644

You know, I don't know what more frightening, the fact that they messed up this bad, or the fact that they publicly stated they were credit card numbers.

That is my thought exactly! I mean, 90% of people would look at it, and think nothing of it.. just a random number from the printing cycle or something...

hehe, im just laughing

i'm not sure what else to do, though if it was my CC number im sure I wouldn't be.
