AC, nah, i live in central virginia, but i used to hunt in WV (don't want to say where) and i know my way around 1/10th of the central mountains like the back of my hand. I bet kentucky would be a good place to escape to. Massive amounts of wilderness.

You guys ever play the game Deus Ex? If there were a take over of that massive proportion. It wouldn't be blatent in your face kind of #. It'd be under your nose reality distortion stuff. Personally if the turd tides rise I'd go over to a freedom fighting group or an ex militant group and work for them. I haven't lost faith in humanity and I really don't believe that a takeover of that kind would succeed. What's the use in a takeover to begin with if everyone is dead? I got a feeling they're going to develop a strong virus and a cure for the virus. They're then going to try to sort of blackmail civilians with the antidote while deliberately spreading the virus. It doesn't sound so far fetched. But er.. anyway. The point is I'd team up with other freedom fighters rather than run. And if my death is a necessary sacrifice for the greater good then I'd be more than happy to give myself.

I wouldn't stay and fight directly in an urban setting,partly because I already live in 'the hills',and partly because I have a family to protect and support,and running off and getting killed would not help them at all.Aside from the obvious,(getting supplies,raiding a PHARMACY,and not only hitting a retail store-I'd hit a Home Depot or Lowe's),I'd try to network with the locals with whom I would already be camping with.I would set up an underground network that would help and support the people who did go out and fight,ala underground railroad/French Resistance.
Taking cover and surviving would be the best plan.
Maybe throw in a little infrastructure sabotage for some spice.Although this isn't always the best way to respond,I say;"He who runs away,lives to fight another day! ". The best revenge is living well.

Val and I have a house out in the country for a REASON. The only "thing" is I gotta get out of Dallas, which is why I keep my 4wheel drive Suburban gassed up at all times with 48 gallons, I keep the Harley fueled as well incase the highways/backroads are so clogged I can take off though "narrow spaces" in the Hog...

Bottom line is IF it starts hitting the fan we'll all have some time to get moving unless of course we are at Ground Zero...

Lucifer, thanks for the poor attempt at a thread hijack. Your 3rd grade esotricism does not impress. I hope this, as well as many other examples of current ATS trash, will shine through and expose the trashmen for who they are.

Whether it is the NWO or just the U.S. Government, the way things are going # is going to hit the fans pretty soon here. I have no doubt in my mind that this country is going to see another civil war here soon. My plan is to grab an AK47 or some other good all round semi auto rifle and head up to the appalachian mountains (about 2 hours away) and form up with some resistance fighters. This idea about planning a survival kit is a pretty smart idea, but the whole point is how many of us would be willing to fight for our constitutional rights and the rights of man?

On a second note I think it would benefit all of us to start studying wilderness survival, and start planning out worst case senarios so that we will be prepared. Since the government will have a stranglehold on all bank accounts, those who rebel are going to have to be able to survive without society.

Always havea way out:

Have at least one "safe place" that you can get to, preferably way out in the boonies. If at all possible, keep it stocked with supplies that do not require any special care to keep maintained. Keep it hidden and secure as much as possible.

Know at least 2 ways to get there. Be sure you can get there in a reasonable amount of time (no more than 2-3 hours on the road). Make sure that you have enough fuel on board to get you there, not just one way but both ways in case you have to double back or make detours.

Consider all the possible hazards along your route. Consider the possible traffic and confusion that would be ensuing along the route in the event of a mass emergency. Consider the possibility of hostile activity along the route, either from carjackers, terrorists, or unfriendly roadblocks. Can you get around them? Can you defend yourself?

When choosing your "safe place" consider your surroundings. Is it elevated? Is it easily secured? Easily defended? Easily concealed? (A detailed topographic map of the area goes a long way in this field, I highly recommend that you get a set).

Do you have access to power? Can you make your own power if not? Do you have access to water? In a local emergency, do you have access to medical care, or can you provide your own if not?

Just a few things to consider.

Dealdren, that's where i'll be going as well, and probably keep on a continual path north. I'm thankful for the hunting/outdoor skilla i learned from my grandfather as a child. And dr, you're exactly right. It's ignorant not to have SOME KIND of plan for a potential future catastrophe.

yah I know these posts on survival have been up for some time, but I felt like adding some more. The fact of the matter is that when the revolution starts its definately going to be Guerrilla warfare. And in that thought my suggestion on what type of firearm to go out and buy in preperation would be a good all round Semi-auto rifle, which gives you a good mix of speed and range. Im thinking about getting a Yugo SKS and modifying it, but there are plenty of nice rifles out there. Anyways good luck and see you on the front
