Since expanding ATS into a new dedicated server in late April, our overall traffic has grown three-fold... and we've seen over 120,000 new posts.
Here are the important numbers from September, which was much bigger than August, our previous best month...
September "hits" . . . . . . . . . . . . . 14,916,606
September page views . . . . . . . . . 2,892,790
September bandwidth . . . . . . . . . . 66.5 gigabytes
Average hits per hour . . . . . . . . . . 20,717
- (thats 5.75 hits per second on average)
Unique users . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 102,265
Unique repeat users . . . . . . . . . . . . 87,342
- (these are people who visited more than once in the month)
Peak day (623,532 hits) . . . . . . . . . 9/11
Pretty much across the board, in all stat categories, September 2003 was 12% more active than August 2003... even in the number of referring users
sent to us by Google (which was over 64,000!).
However, September was also the first month where the number of unique website users began to seriously tax our server hardware/software. A solution
to this problem is being worked on, and we should have an announcement shortly.
So... thanks to all our members who continue to make ATS the top community for alternative discussion and thought.
(by the way... "hits" indicates the number of individual items requested by site users... many sites inflate their numbers by not qualifying what
"hits" really are, and normally a site's total hits also include all the requests for each individual graphic on the site... in our case, our web
traffic logging does not track images, so our "hits" are purely .html .js .css and .php pages only)
