United States President Geoge W. Bush and German Chancellor Angela Merkel,in a united front, agreed that Iran poses a nuclear threat to the world. They said their meeting was simply to be proactive on the issue, and to be ready to deal with any issues that may arise with Iran.

"Iran armed with a nuclear weapon poses a grave threat to the security of the world," said Bush at a joint appearance with Merkel at the White House.

The EU-3 nations of Britain, France and Germany -- which have negotiated with Iran in hopes of reaching a resolution -- together with the United States must work to persuade other nations to join their stance, said Merkel.

"And we will certainly not be intimidated by a country such as Iran," she said.

Bush said their meeting was part of a "proactive" diplomatic effort to determine how best to confront Iran over its fledgling nuclear program and "lay the foundation for peace."

War!!!! I think that we will be going to war soon, but this will definetely be a coalition of France, the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom. We have had Global Hawk reconaissance drones flying over Iran since the beginning of last year, and we are basically finding our targets. There has also been talk that we have had Navy Seals in country as well. We are going in, but it will not be like Iraq.

Bush, Merkel Take United Stance on Iran

WASHINGTON - President Bush and German Chancellor Angela Merkel stood together Friday in urging U.N. intervention if Iran does not retreat from a resumption of its nuclear program. The world needs to "send a common message to Iran that their behavior ... is unacceptable," Bush said.

Taking the matter to the Security Council, as Germany, France and Britain recommended on Thursday, is the logical next step, Bush said.

"We want an end result to be acceptable, which will yield peace, which is that the Iranians not have a nuclear weapon in which to blackmail and-or threaten the world," Bush said.

Yes, both leaders took a unified step in condemning Iran’s unwillingness to compromise; they both said its behavior is unacceptable. However, it should be noted that the possibility of war is still distant, for now. When Bush said that the military option is still on the table Chancellor Merkel did not repeat the comment.

Westpoint, if your screenname has anything to do with the USMA, i'm sure you will see action in Tehran. I hope that we are able to get everyone on the UN Security Council on board with sanctions, military involvement (if needed), etc.

Well, more on this continuing story.

Big Security Council Members Agree on Iran

LONDON - Russia and China agreed with the United States and its European allies Monday that Iran must fully suspend its nuclear program, but the countries stopped short of demanding referral to the U.N. Security Council, Britain's Foreign Office said.

Britain, France and Germany, backed by Washington, want Iran to be referred to the Security Council, which can impose sanctions.

But Russia and China, which have close commercial ties with Iran, have resisted such a move in the past and could stymie efforts against Tehran as veto-wielding members of the U.N. body.

The British Foreign Office said all five permanent members of the Security Council — the U.S., Britain, France, Russia and China — and Germany had shown "serious concern over Iranian moves to restart uranium enrichment activities."

The United States, France, and Britain want Iran referred to the UN Security Council but China and Russia are more hesitant. However, they all agreed that one way or another Iran must stop its Nuclear Program.
We just have to wait and see if the IAEA refers Iran to the Security Council.
