His hairstyle earned him his nickname, but his criminal activities in a series of bank robberies earned him one of the longest state prison sentences ever mandated by a Los Angeles Superior Court. David Lee Robinson, 54, the 'Dreadlock Bandit', had already done time and been released from prison for commiting similar crimes. he was given the maximum sentence for his conviction on each of the 19 counts against him.

TORRANCE, Calif. - A man dubbed the "dreadlocks bandit" because of his hairstyle was sentenced Wednesday to 1,210 years in state prison plus 22 consecutive life terms for a string of bank robberies he committed after being released from prison for an earlier holdup spree.

It was one of the longest sentences ever handed down in Los Angeles County, officials said.

David Lee Robinson, 54, was sentenced in Superior Court. He was convicted in October of 19 counts of second-degree robbery and three counts of attempted robbery. Jurors deadlocked on an additional robbery count and six other charges were dismissed during trial.

Robinson got the maximum sentence for each count, to be served consecutively, along with enhancements because of his prior record of multiple robberies, officials said.

1210 years plus 22 consecutive life sentences. So, he'll be out in, like, 4010, or so.

What is the wisdom behind a sentence of this length? Is it some kind of deterrent?

Don't rob banks or we'll put you away for 1000 years. I'd like to know what the equivalent punishments are for lying or cheating or murder.

I beleive it's caled the three strikes rule.

Apparently he didn't learn his lesson the first time.

Zero tolerence for stealing money...
Unless you do it with a corporation at your back...

But of course not...

If you are not elite, you better play their game, be their slave, and NOT do as they do, because if you do, if you dare hustle like they hustle...

They will destroy you.

I'm not condoning robbing banks, but money related crimes should not forfiet someone's life...
This guy was stupid...
And you are responsible for your actions...

But there must be equal justice for all...
One guy steals in a white collar should have the same punishment as the guy who steals in a black mask.

This guy robbed banks at gun point. That is not just a crime of money, but of violence. Also, white collar crime is being craked down apon in America. But there is a big difference between "cooking the books", and putting a gun to someones head.

Why not just kill the SOB instead of wasting money on him and handing out redicuolous sentences?

Sometimes the judicial system can be absolutely stupid IMO.

Totally agree with you, theres no point in the life sentence, its cheaper and easier just to plant a bullet in their skull. But no, even serious criminals have to have rights. Even terrorists. Its pathetic.

Is this the factor that accounts for the sentencing disparity between 'white collar' and 'black mask' crime? Not so much the stealing, as the violence with which it is done? Or is it more like, you can be violent, like commit manslaughter, and get a light sentence, or you can steal, like "cooking the books", and get off easy, but don't steal violently?

Or is it truly a case of the man wielding his power, ala
