I am devout to believing in most of science, excluding some ancient astornaut stuff. But i always wondered if god really did exist (The Christian god). Because lately i have been seeing all these TV shows on miracles, and how people claimed to have seen angels, and been sent to heaven and back, and been saved and stuff. And i'm worried that if god does really exist he's probably super pissed at me, because 1. I don't believe in him. 2. I follow science 3. I think all the religions in the world were misinterpretted for alien activity. 4. I masturbate a lot. 5. I cuss and am sometimes not nice to everyone. I constantly wonder if I will go to hell for not believing when i die. After watching all these miracle shows i think that god and jesus may be watching my every move, it kind of scares me. Do any of you feel this way?

Maybe you should switch to watching the Psychic friends network instead. You'll see the same nonsense sans the hellfire BS, and you just have to put up with the barrage of 900 number ads instead.

If a self sufficient god exists, he could care less whether you believe in him or not. If he is self sufficient, he doesn't care about anything. Christianity demands faith because that's how the virus is spread. There's no rational reason for such a demand, and faith itself is irrational. Why the hell would an omnipotent god care whether or not you believe in him? It's such a stupid concept, it's flabergasting that people fall for it.

If that's true, then why are you here exhibiting angst about it?

It's better to engage in it than to follow it. Otherwise, how do you know the scientists aren't lying to you?

That's unforgivable. Do you prefer brimstone or coal?

Say 10 Hail Marys and 2 Our Fathers. Go in peace to sin no more.

No. Hell is one the most deviously usefull ideas men ever came up with. It allows entire populations to be controlled like sheep without even a single bullet being fired.

The miracle shows are BS hype, lies, and exaggeration designed to cause people like you to worry their way into submission. It's a scam. These con artists have been refining their trade for thousands of years and live extremely well off the gullibility of the average viewer.

*sigh*

I think all the religions in the world were misinterpretted for alien activity

...god and jesus may be watching my every move...

So you're scared of aliens?

Apparently the fear of not following the dogma is embedded in you. If you dont believe in him why do you care? If you're insecure about your own actions and think that anyone other than you is responsible for the consequences then you're heading towards the same path as every fear-driven-religious person out there. Dont fool yourself into thinking otherwise.
You follow science. Like spamandham says, engage in it. But dont, like many, try to define religious mumbo jumbo thru science and give up because it wont work declaring that science cant prove anything. Science cant prove non-existential things. Try all you want.

We all have a moral code we live by. We break the code and we feel guilty, with or without the influence of a religious institution. If you cuss and are not nice you better stop it. If you truely believe its bad to cuss, cut it out. Or do you believe satan makes you do those things?

No i am not afraid of aliens, i believe that they came here and all the religions started because of our own crazy thoughts on what was going on. I am just starting to wonder if all i believe in is crap and god really does exist and he's looking down at me and hating every step of my life. Because I've spent most of my life telling people why he doesn't exist, and why all the religions are just cults, and how it is to believe that some guy and some woman caused all the sins in the world because some snake told them to eat an evil fruit. And I hate the churches because they fill our mind up with , and constantly want us to donate money for them, and in return they molest our kids, and yell at us for not being the best we can for god. And they yell at us for masturbating and looking at porn. Come on, it's just human nature why can't they harrass someone else? And don't get me started on going to church every sunday. I don't have any time in my schedule to spend an hour and a half worshipping like a weakened frenchman. I refuse to ask for forgiveness like everyone does in my old church, it just shows how weak you are, rather than how sorry? I'm mostly tired of all their anti-homosexual and abortion. If someone is gay, can't you just accept that? But nooooo, they say all the gays are going to hell because the bible forbids it. And abortion? If a woman gets raped and she gets pregnant do you think she wants that baby? NO! As bad as it might seem, woman have rights too!

I know they aren't lying because there is endless amounts of proof backing up their ideas. Rather than Bibles, and seeing angel crap!

If it's true, then why do you consider it sinfull to believe it? Does god consider it sinfull to accept the truth? If so, how could you possibly know what it is you are supposed to believe, assuming god even cared about what you believe?

On the one hand you say the religious stuff is all crap, that religious ideas were born out of alien stories (or something like that), yet on the other hand, you seem to have angst over that which you say is BS.

Are you seriously pondering god/hell/etc., or are you merely challenging those who believe in the supernatural?

Yes that's exactly what i'm doing. I believe in science, but for some reason i have this guilt that god MAY be real and watching me talk about how unreal he is. There, i hope that made what i'm trying to say clear.

Science does not oppose God.

There is no scientific evidence pointing to the absence of God. As such. saying that God does not exist is only an assumption, and not based on any scientific or empirical evidence.

If you are worried about God watching you say he doesn't exist, then don't say it

It seems like you are feeling some conviction from the Holy Spirit. This is a moment of decision for you. You need to read the New Testament and talk to some christians who are sincere in their faith in Christ. This isn't a light matter, your eternal destiny is at stake. u2u me if you have questions.

You have been raised in a culture saturated with religion. Odds are you have been exposed to these ideas since a very young age. Don't you suppose that if there are any gods, they're mature enough to deal with your doubt, particularly since they've provided you nothing but cultural conditioning to base it on?

Is it really reasonable that the creator(s) of the universe are so egotistical that they are concerned with what you believe about them? If there are any gods, no-one on this planet knows anything about them.

For all you know, this life is a test to weed out the freethinkers from the faith zombies - a search for those who seek truth through the evidence that has been provided rather than those who jump to conclusions based on emotion to satisy their own fear of death.

Which would you prefer if you were god; those who are so obsessed with their own egos they refuse to accept the inevitable and latch onto poorly constructed myths, or those who will accept what your creation has revealed regardless of the personal consequences?

If you were god, would you want all these insignificant creatures praising you, fighting wars on your behalf, errecting megamillion dollar monstrosities in your name, fighting legal battles to erect idols in public places in honor of 10 absurd commandments you had nothing to do with, tithing, babbling in tounges, having emotional highs they attribute to you, and on and on with all the religious nonsense found on this planet?

Permit me to quote from the Bible;

1 Corinthians 13:11-

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Belief out of fear, or out of desire - these are the ways of a child.

Don't be so sure ARES.

You have to be penant (sorry), and to get into Heaven Jesus made it quite clear the stipulations about who and how they got in. Eye of a needle and a camel any one?

Oh I sin, have done, and im sure I will do so in the future because my spirit is strong but my bodies weak -BUT, at the end of the day I believe 100% in Jesus and the Lord god almighty, and ever since my mid teens i stopped doing all the really bad stuff i did and changed my life.

Strolling up to the pearly gates all cheesy grin and non -repentants not going to do you any good whats so ever. God forgives, yes he does, but he forgives believers and those who are repentant sinners who came to God through Jesus. Skeptics and aethiests need not apply for the entrance ticket. Repentance after deaths not really a good idea is it?

every blasphemer and non-believer will go through this, and it is a terrible, crippling fear. it makes you want a religion, if only for a "just in case". and religion was made for the "just in case". while you go through the fear, research different religions. even ones you think are bad. satanism, budhism, hinduism, islam, christianity. research them all. once you're done researching, and you're still scared, try going to services for one of the religions, because the choice you make should be based off of experience and nothing else. try different ones out. if you like it, stay with it. but if you don't, and you lose your fear, then you're fine without religion.

don't let them tell you you can't love science and be religious. it is your life, do with it what you want.

I wouldn't be surprised if half the religous people on this planet are just that. Just in case believer's. It would explain why most don't know their bible, or don't know it that well. Why most don't even bother listening to it's teaching's. And to top all that off, claim that even if they sin, its ok because they can just repent it away and be "good" in God's eyes. Nothing better then a good scapegoat to pawn your own actions off onto.

Somet Christians I meet seem to be just that.

Hypocritical just in case "repenters".

And many of those are here on ATS.

With the exception of ONE. (maybe two) ...

prot0n, i can understand your dismay about that, but it is something that every religion deals with. if it's not that, it's something else. with satanism, it's stupid teens looking for some attention. this is why i have become an atheist, because i can't stand being part of a religion, believing in a god, that has so many idiotic followers.
