In his election manifesto, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has announced radical plans for the future of East Africa. He wants to see, by 2013, a
single President for an East African Federation including Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania as well as an end to subsistence farming and a ambitious plan to
expand the industrial infrastructure of the region.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has called for an agricultural revolution and an end to subsistence farming at the launch of his election
manifesto.
He said he wanted to win next month's polls to fulfil the dream of Ugandans' political fathers.
If he won, the creation of an East African Federation could become a reality with one president for Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania in 2013, he said.
He also spoke of establishing several industrial estates, each with the potential for some 800 factories.
"We will build the infrastructure; we shall advertise the estates. Anybody who wants can come. If they don't come the government itself can build the
factory; they can be privatised later."

I was rather surprised by these announcements when I read about them. They are certainly ambitious and would change the face of Africa, hopefully for
the better.
And end to subsistence farming would help alleviate problems caused by food shortages, as economies of scale would be evident in large scale farming
rather than every man for himself.
The plans for the industrial expansion would certainly help the economies of the region too, maybe even helping them move from 3rd world to 1st world
status one day.
But apart from that is the plan to effectively merge the three current East African nations into one Federation. If pulled off, this model could
expand, much like the EU, which in turn would put an end to the Wars and rebellions we see on our TV screens all the time.
As a bonus, there are several other pledges he has made for the Ugandan electorate:
To introduce free secondary education
To set up a government-run mortgage scheme for house buyers
To build more hydro-electric power stations
To work for the total annihilation of terrorist groups.
Certainly a sign of changing times in Africa and one can hope for the best.
