What is the real reason for war in Iraq?

That is what everyone wants to know, why did we go to war with a country that can't defend itself why is the key.

There are several theories as to why we did this.

1) To start the formation of the NWO
Sorry, this one is not even close, they don't need
war for that, war opens peoples eyes, makes them more aware of the issues, not the opposite. Homeland security has been around for 150+years, we just know what it's called now, if there is an NWO, the surely would be smarter than this[/i]

2) Bush is a warmonger
there is some logic to this, but his reaction was anticipated, 3000 Americans died on 9/11, somebody was going to pay, right or not

3) Nano alien technology in Iraq
Another theory I have seen tossed around, I would say that it's silly, but there has been increased UFO sightings in the middle east since the war so, who knows

Now my theory is this, the USA wants control of the oil empire which has for years been corrupt and arrogant, same thing Russia wanted before Afganistan kicked their ass all over the Middle East, we also want to control terrorism, so let's part our asses in the middle of the playing field, and NO there is now way we are leaving Iraq ever, we all know that. We want the world to know that the US is not to be #ed with and I think we proved the point, right or not, that is your call, but the US is keeping YOU safe as well, believe it or not. I believe that Bush is a dumb man and he is being used by his father, I believe in his heart GW is not a bad man, he isn't a leader, but he is surrounded by some great minds, so in essence, he is much less dangerous than say, a Wesley Clark, that's for sure.

My point is, right or wrong the US made it's biggest choice as a nation, we started a war with Iraq without justification, even a neo-con like me admits this, the point is, why, why did we do it? The answer is because we can, at least until the government chooses to let me into the loop.

Well the Bush's do like their oil money. What about France? They had their fingers deep into the Iraq economy before US troops arrived. Now they want back in. Maybe thats why they can't back the US? But think about what happened before 9/11, it did not take Bush long to send in the troops after he became the Pres. It was almost a given that he was going to do it. Tack on the theory that 9/11 was orchestrated by the NWO or similar groups, just so he could send in more troops?

The same reason every nation goes to war...economics.

1. Destabilizing relationship with the Saudis. We needed another big OPEC presence in the middle east. We had established minor presences (Turkey, Qatar, etc.) but needed a major one for the Saudi pullout.
2. One nation was already making themselves an easy mark, by constantly being a thorn in the UN's side.
3. Iraq had switched to the Euro, and was actively trying to convince the rest of OPEC to do likewise.
4. 9/11 virtually guaranteed acceptance of little justification needed, to war against an arab foe...as demonstrated in Afghanistan.

Add these together, and it made Iraq the ideal location for a new US-friendly presence in the middle east (at least that was the plan). US-friendly, as we would have freed them from a dictator. The plan was already fully in place, then the UN balked rather unexpectedly (at least unexpected by Bush), and thus, he went ahead anyways. Just as in this, he is currently flubbing the post-war actions as well.

I'd say 'all the above' to just about any list of reasons.

I think this war has been in the works for a long time. Some probably felt they should have ousted Saddam during GW 1. The economic reasons sound just as likely to me. The Euro/Dollar scenario has sounded interesting. I also think the US containment policy towards Iraq was producing terrorism, since we were occupying SA, according to some. And just think about how unstable the ME would be w/ out US presence. So, I think the US had to end it's containment policy and leave SA. To do so they had to get rid of the reason they were there, Saddam. The WMD's is a good reason also. Saddam used them before and never fully accounted for some of them. To me, it doesn't matter much that we haven't 'found' any yet. I also think a Palestinian state, subsidized by Iraq with Saddam in power, could have terrible consequences.

Now, OPEC will keep the dollar, terrorists can stop whining now about occupying their holy land, and an evil dictator is out of power unable to aid terrorists, fund homicide bombers, or kill his opponents en masse.

While supporters of the war like myself didnt seem to want war per se, I just think it was easier to accept a war than to accept Saddam and his brutal rule. Furthermore, I think in a post 9/11 world most Americans dont have much sympathy for those that wish us harm. The president made the case and 67% of us supported it.

Damn, 2 people beat me to the euro/dollar explaination

I would agree with Bob and Gaz, there are many reasons behind the war, although economics are certainly the main reason.

However, I am not convinced that everything is over yet... keep in mind, the US forces are still camped out directly in middle of OPEC territory with more than enough firepower to roll over any country in any direction they wish to go.

Also, we havent heard the end of the currency conversion issue yet.

dr: interesting you say that as Bush and Putin just announced together that they don't want IRAN to have nukes. Is he starting to make the case for Iran already? (I mean, they already found more uranium in Iran). Iran could probably fall on it's own with a little nudging.

I feel that the only reason was to create some death (the world over-population problem!) and to create money for the Bush Administration and all of the Bush Family and Friends.......Bectel, Haliburton, etc...

The United States was getting really planet aware and electric and hybrid cars were getting more and more media coverage and popularity. Then BOOM! Bush steals the election, reverses all of the planet-aware laws, and now there are alot of Hemi commercials now aren't there?!

When a republican administration is in power they try to eradicate the middle class and grow the lower class.

If it wasn't Iraq or Afghanistan, it would be the next Arab nation...which kind of sucks!!

Thanks!!

To rid the world of evil of course.

1 - No, really, the Euro factor is a big one, but there are a number of reasons for the invasion.

2 - Iraq was an enemy of Israel, Israel have been pushing for an American invasion for many years.

3 - Saddam was a pain, he didn't co-operate with the west.

4 - There is a lot of money to be made, not just in the oil trade, but in the re-construction of Iraq.

5 - Bush was supposed to be more popular as a war time leader, although this idea seems to be dead in the water today, I am sure it was considered a bonus at the time the war was being planned.

6 - Bush and Blair both have a close eye on their place in History and their religious beliefs would no doubt have influenced their persistance and drive.

7 - Saddam's history as a brutal dictator was the real clincher that convinced a lot of ordinary folks that war was necessary.

8 - WMD was only a threat in the future, and I do believe it would have become a threat, only there is a strong argument that even if Saddam did revive his WMD program, it would only be for defensive purposes and would pose no threat to any non-aggressor.

Many reasons but none were presented honestly by our governments.

Peace and Gazrok both Beat me to it.

The two main points: Destabilized Saudi Relations and ISRAEL.

Israel has had a hard on for Iraq for years. With Iraq now under American control, they get not only access to Iraqi oil for the first time in 50 years, they now have gotten rid of one of thier most terrifying opponents. Now they are screaming for an invasion of Iran.

Israel is smart, they figure, why dirty ourselves with strikes and invasions of our enemies, well just send our big dumb drooling lap dog America after them to take the flak.

Theres also the Saudi spin on things. I know the relations have been destabilizing for years, and now, one of the first things we did after the war was leave Saudi.

Maybe they are up next for a bombing. Gods know they have had it comming for a long time. A long overdue bombing. But the reasons they would attack Saudi...........

It still cracks me up that people think Israel is using America.

If you really think about it, it's convincingly the other way around.
