Badges

Hi, first time 'poster' here, longtime reader. I'd like to ask a question which might have been discussed before, the US military tends to have unique 'badges' for its various departments or projects (like the shuttle misson badges!); could verification of the existance of topical projects like MJ12 etc be confirmed through researching the manufacturers product lines? i.e. there might be a MJ12 patch out there..

Security Badges when I was in the Air Force are issued and manufactured
on Base and were strictly controlled. When I left my assignment I had
to turn in the badge to Security police for it to be destroyed.

If Majestic did exist, the fact that their agenda was secret and all knowledge was denied of it's existance kinda proves that they'd have to be pretty stupid to commision a patch or badge advertising the fact they belonged to such an exclusive group.

If they did get anything (if MJ12 existed) I put my money on a lifetimes membership at a swanky clubhouse somewhere out in the middle of the countryside.

There is no funny thing when it comes to security. USAF had a list and you had your badge. If you were not on the list or someone the officer in charge could not not get a hold of. You were in deep crap! There are no places you can find copys of IDs For 90% of the gov. offices or (spokes) to see if they are real. Hell you should see the look on most peoples faces when I hand them my red passport.

By badges you mean unit patches?

I doubt it. Or at least they never got off the base. Next time you are at an airshow, look at the flight suits. You can see most patches are velcored on. When heading out the "official" one is taken off and handed to the crew chief. Sometimes another is substituted, but its usually vague etc.

I have a few friends who were USAF and they guarded thier unit patches quite zealously. A smentioned above, if you wore a patch you damm well better be part of that unit.

Do you mean patches? That are worn on uniforms?

Patches are issued by the squadron (USAF). Also many people get special patches made but are not offical.

For example, my husband has one that his friend made and it is of a guy mooning you. It says "Freezing our arses off in Alaska so you dont have to".

My husband hands out patches to friends and family. It is allowed. His squadron just closed due to BRAC and he has about 2 dozen of the squadron's patches just sitting here. LOL

He also has every one of his squadron patches framed.

Anyways, is this what you ment? Or did you mean military IDs and other type of IDs like a "flightline" ID.

Also, w/ the new uniforms.....there will be NO MORE patches worn. Just rank patches on the sleaves/collar

I believe the original poster has confused a mission patch with a security badge.

Years ago I googled "unit patch". Looking for a patch for my very small Army unit. Found an outfit which claimed they made patches for Area 51. Alien liason, Body disposal et cetera. I don't care enough to look again, but you might.

Unit patches and mission patches build unity among testosterone laden young men. Not a description of the old coots who allegedly made up Majestic 12. I can't see dignified old men sewing unit patches on their Brooks Brothers suits.

Military intelligence patches are intentionally made small. So MI guys can borrow unit patches from other units in the area. This tends to make guys in the other units irritable, but the law gets handed down from above.

that is very true, intel and other such clandestine sections of the mil ,tend to have cover patches that go over their normal small patches,

as you mentioned people who ARE in these normal units get a bit annoyed at this,

Go through some of their stuff. They even have an Area 51 Alien Body Disposal Unit patch. So anything that popped up would be highly suspicious. Companies like that make and sell lots of novelty IDs, patches, and badges, so anything you came across could easily be a fake.

Also, secret units and projects often wear "sterile" uniforms, as in no identifying patches, badges, or crests. The chances of seeing the real deal are nonexistent.

I worked with a guy at my last base who had a patch from AF Flight Test Squadron Det 3, or something like that, I cant recall correctly. It was from Area 51.

As far as security badges go, I cant even get into my parking lot at work without my card and inputing my PIN, then I have to use it to get into my building, then the elevator inside the door, then the door to the SCIF where my actual desk is. When you leave your job in the building for good, you have to turn your badge in, and it is destroyed.

Sorry i have been away for a while, yes i mean the velcro flight suit badges you see on TV not the plastic ID bages that everyone in the world wears!! i mean that would be dumb.

When i went to Florida a few years ago, i brought one when i visited NASA it just got me wondering where they are made and who designs them; it might have been a lead for one of you to research.
