While visiting his niece, an elderly man had a heart attack. The niece drove wildly to get him to the emergency room. After what seemed like a very long wait, the E.R. doctor appeared, wearing his scrubs and a long face. Sadly, he said, "I'm afraid that your uncle's brain is dead, but his heart is still beating."

"Oh, dear," cried the niece , her hands clasped against her cheeks with shock...... "We've never had a Democrat in the family before!"

If you really think about it for a few minute, this story helps illustrate the "great divide" between liberals and conservatives. One group follows the heart and one group follows the mind. Ask a liberal their opinion on a particular issue and many (not all) will respond beginning with "I feel that ...". Ask a conservative the exact same question and many (not all) will respond with "I think that ...".

Try the experiment yourselves or even on yourselves and see how you respond and what happens over time. I have, and the results (of my admittedly un-scientific poll) surprised me.

All that said, it helps explain for me why the two sides can never seem to agree. It's kind of like the political version of "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus", bound to go through history at opposite ends of the spectrum, but still needing each other.

And we do need each other, because the balance of the two sides is what produces the best for all of us. Each keeps the other from being able to pull too far in their direction.

So we seem to be fated to disagree, but if we understand the reasons, maybe we can be nicer about it.

Happy Holidays to all!

Hmmm... I always heard it was women who said "I feel" and men who said "I think"... Oh, well.

In any case, I think the story only serves to define the division between the two extremes of the political spectrum. The truth of the matter is that most people are somewhere in between these two extremes and to concentrate on the extremes or try to label everyone as being associated with one extreme or the other just contributes to the division that exists; to cut the knife more sharply down the center and pit one side against the other...

...which is all part of the political game.

And Merry Christmas to you, centurian1211.

Your heart can not function without the mind, the mind can not survive without the heart.

Both are needed and it is when both work in perfect harmony, the body is at its strongest. While the heart and mind begin to fall apart, the body will slowly die and fail.

Maybe you are right, while one group reprosent each and they do not work together America will fall and fail like every Empire does in the end.
