i don't think it's legal to post whois info willnilly. I found this on the legal info:

"9.2 Trademarks.

"www.aboveetopsecret.com" and the "www.aboveetopsecret.com" logo are trademarks and service marks of the owners of the Site ("the Marks"). Any unauthorized use of the Marks is strictly prohibited.
Any product, service, or trade name other than those owned by the owners of the Site that identify a third party as the source thereof may, even if not so indicated, may be the service mark or trademark of that respective entity or individual.

9.3 Claims of Copyright Infringement by third parties
The owners and operators of the Site support the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA") and encourages users to contact us via our agent at the address below, with any claims of alleged copyright infringement by Third Party Websites:

Justin Russom
Corporate Counsel
Level 23, 12 Creek Street
Brisbane 4000, Australia
Fax: (61) 7 3007 0075
Phone: (61) 7 3007 0012
Email: [email protected]
Please include "DMCA" in the subject line if sending us notice by email. "

abovetopsecret and aboveetopsecret both are not trademarks in the us trademark database.

whois info is public information. I don't see any problem with posting it.
Yeah, it's a cheap attempt at attracting "typo traffic" but I wonder if it was really worth the investment since most of us don't "type" the url into the browser in the first place.

That is not a knockoff, but a direct trademark infringement, as it is only looking for a misstype traffic due to trademark dilution!

These issues are addrest commonly by the consortium, and a cease and disist is easily obtained.

First Use law would apply in the attempt of getting a trademark, in which the ceas and desist would be applied then. It would be very hard for the 'other' to gain a trademark, with first use of the 'famouse' name gaining authority by default.

ATS can and would obtain the trademark, if naturally allowed. The other would never gain trademark, as First Use would be impossible to prove, without demonstrating possible dilution attempts in the first place.

"ATS webmaster & owner - I can hook you up to one of the best Domain Name Trademark attorneys in the world if desired to pursue trademark, and/or infringement"

I think we should take these ripoffs as a compliment.

If people are that desperate to get attention, it obviously means that we're the best conspiracy site out there right?

Depending on where ATS is hosted, it may already be copyright if the country its hosted in follows the Berne Convention. Its a rather useful thing to know about if you plan on putting things on the web.
