It appears Japanese attitudes to sexual harrassment are changing, in an ugly way. A group of underground passengers beat another passenger who later died. The police are investigating.

The man fled the train at a station in the city of Osaka after a 20-year old student accused him of groping her.

I used to read about mob lynchings all the time, and saw a couple nearly go off, in Cambodia. But Japan is famous for its low street and violent crime rate.

However, Japan is also infamous for its less-than-western attitudes to women and its seeming tolerance for sexual harrasment of a physical nature. I read an article about fifteen years ago that spoke about the "lift girls" and what they have to put up with. I have a couple of mates who live in Japan and they say they see this sort of thing on the train pretty regularly.

Apparently the younger women are saying no to this kind of behaviour, what can I say, I like liberated women. I'm impressed that four men felt they needed to be white knights (or are they just perpetuating their "manly" attitudes?), but the heat of the moment breeds mob mentalities everywhere.

I know this might come out wrong, and I mean no disrespect to anyone, but can't the girls just wear pants?
