Offensive Foods....

You may be too young to remember, but in the early 80's there was a diet candy. It was advertised everywhere. The company that made it was quite profitiable.
Only one problem. Its name was AYDS.
So the disease AIDS comes along, and suddenly, nobody wants to buy AYDS diet candy. "How'd ya lose that weight?" "AYDS" "Uh, I'll be over here"

Major slam to that company.
And it wasn't alone:

Little chewable taffy-like squares in various flavors.

I can only attest to the chocolate flavor but, hey ... they were good and I was looking for a snack?!

Not sure why they were present in the house in the first place [mother/sister(s)], but I'm leaning towards an older sister.

Actually, I never gave thought to it but, you're right, they did seem to disappear from the market almost overnight.
