Okay, people read this & think about it. Julius Caesar knew this centuries ago, & people say that America is the "New Rome" in today's society. I've been saying this for years.

You need to think for yourself. There is a major difference between Patriotism & Blind Stupidity. Decide which you are feeling through commonsense.

I think it would be better to be a patriot rather than go in and be led by blind stupidity. Atleast with Patriotism you know what you are for and with blind stupidity you don't have a clue as to what is going on and what is being said.

That alleged quote from Caesar is an urban legend. There is no ancient source for it, and in several respects it is highly unlikely that C. Julius Caesar said anything of the kind, to wit:

1. Caesar never banged any drums of war.
2. Caesar never seized the rights of the people, although he did curtail the privileges of the wealthy, powerful, and aristocratic. The average Roman had no political power or meaningful votes under the Republic, and thus lost nothing when Caesar assumed the dictatorship. Certainly his enemies accused him of curtailing freedom and rights, but he never acknowledged doing that, and would never have made a statement like your alleged quote.
3. Although you have him saying "And I am Caesar" at the end, the usual way I have seen it written is "And I am Julius Caesar." This he would never have done. His full name was Gaius Julius Caesar. He usually called himself just Caesar. In formal discourse, he might be called Gaius Julius. Informally, he was often called Gaius Caesar. But the only time the words "Julius Caesar" would have been used with no praenomen would be in reference to his family, the Caesar branch of the Gens Julius, not to any individual.

I see your point, and it is somewhat valid w/r/t Bush, but please, don't call Bush Caesar. Caesar was one of the best, most benign leaders any nation has ever had throughout all history. It's most unfortunate that he's neither a U.S. citizen nor breathing, otherwise he'd be an ideal president. Bush isn't worthy to tie his shoes.

The quote may or may not have been Caesar, you are right. I think you might be missing the point I was trying to make though.

Patriotism & Blind Stupidity are often confused by the Government & their politics, purposefully, so they can get into your wallet, get into your mind, & get into your mindset, to manipulate you to further their needs of the day, weeks, month, year, or decade.

This thread was initiated, to get people talking, so talk away. If you're a Bush lover, go ahead & post, if you're a Bush basher, go ahead.

I am not a Bush basher, I have never liked ANY of the Presidents that have ever been in the Oval Office. The reason? I hear the double-speak, see it in print when they're quoted in the newspapers, & see everything they're up to behind the scenes. It makes Me sick to My stomach, as I feel like I'm the only one hearing it all.

I am a Gemini, hear, speak, listen, & talk in double-speak when I choose to. I am someone who can agree to disagree, & also who will fight & die to defend your right to argue with Me, even if I don't think you should in the first place.

Choose to think how you want, just don't be one of the gullible Lemmings following the mass of Lemmings off the cliff.

By the way, you're right, Bush isn't worthy of lacing Caesar's sandals, let alone being in the same class of humanity.

I don't think Caeasr was the best of the best though, Leonidas & His Spartans were.

Okay, so maybe I am a bit biased about the Spartan's and Leonidas. When I made that comment, I was referring to the warriors that they became and the willingness to lay down their lives for honor, duty, and country.

I post this quote alot these days hoping people will read the speech by Dwight Eisenhower, you might know he was a Five Star General and in his last year as president this was his standardized speech.

"Beware the Military Industrial Complex" Dwight Eisenhower

Read the words warning of the future we have encountered by this General, he was right.

Somehow I don't doubt that Eisenhower said that. The Military Industrial Complex is the machine that keeps the cash hemmorraghing out of the tax-payers pockets to give them job security.
