Do you see what I see? IMAGES

Linking to outside images, man those pictures are Grrrrrreat!
And they make my post look really cool too!

Here's how it works.

[ / img ]

Very similar to URLs in that the Open Image command ( [ img= ]) requires a properly formatted link to the image, whether it is contained within the ATS site or from an outside source, so check the link carefully to be sure it will work.

The Close Image command is within the standard command format we all love, just be sure that you Do Not Use Spaces within the two brackets or the command will not work.


One more note - please keep in mind that Images require Band Width, and the larger or more complex the image the more Band Width it takes, thus slowing things down for everyone, so please Keep It Simple Silly!

As noted above, when linking to images you must follow the ATS Image Guidelines and Avatar and Signature Guidelines. Most often you will need to reduce an image so that it will meet these guidelines. Some while back I put together a short tutorial on how to produce proportional images quickly and effectively. If you need help, you can send me a U2U.

This is only part of the solution, also get the Power Toy Calculator from the same site. It's much easier to work with.

Now you need a formula to help you resize pictures accurately to proportion. Try this:

(X/W)H=Y

Where:

X is the desired width
W is the original width
H is the original height
Y is the proportional height.

Let's say you have a picture to use an an avatar and it's too wide: 200x300. An avatar can be only 160 pixels, so you use this formula, as entered on the calculator:



Now you can enter those dimensions into the Image Resizer.




Here's an example where a picture is too narrow:





Apply the formula using the Power Calculator:

(160/150)206=219.733333333333333333333333333

Enter 160 and 219 (always round down) into the Image Resizer and voilà:





Notice that the Image Resizer has taken care of the rounding error for you.

You can use the same formula with some adjustments to correct for height, as well.

Also, if you want to post an image, it is a good thing to have a hosting site. Photobucket is one choice and it is free. There are other choices and a Google Search will turn them up.

When you want to post an image, Photobucket will provide you with the BB code you need to post it, but if you just have a URL you can click the "image link" on the reply page and follow the directions:

Dont forget you can upload images at www.imageshack.us if you don't have any webspace.

Or, when you have been a member for a while and have "points to burn" you can buy space through the ATS store and host them for you, with a direct link and all is kept save on the ATS survey.
