I need help with my computer, whenever I right click and go to "Save picture as..." it doesn't save the picture, it only says ".bmp" as the file format, and "untitled" as the name. If the file I want to save is a .jpeg or .gif, it wont save the file as that, it'll only save it as .bmp and "untitled" I know that some sites do this intentionally, but this is happening in ALL the sites I go to, and now I am unable to save pictures because they all turn into .bmp. How can I fix this?

Well usually it will allow you to save as whatever the picture is currently or .bmp. Why not just save it as .bmp for now and then change it later?

Just to check what site are you trying to copy from and I'll try it myself and let ya know.

well I've been getting this problem for a while now, and I would even see a .gif file and be unable to save the animation because it would save it as a .bmp. But of course as my luck goes, once you started helping me out, it began to work on some sites and I've been able to save .jpegs and stuff. The site I am on right now is www.aimicons.net... I used to be able to save the icons onto my c: but now I'm unable to. Let me know if it works. Thanks so much M0j0m.

Well, first off that site is a P.O.S site and my popup blocker gobbled up about 20+ windows in the few seconds that I was there. But I was able to click on the small icons (Right Click....Save Picture As...) and I had the option for .gif. However I kept getting a window wanting me to install some plug in and crap so I just left. My advice would be to try some other (non-spammy) sites and check browser settings and stuff.

Well I can't really control which sites have those pop-ups, but my pop-up blocker got a lot of them too, and I kept getting those install things too. But damn, your computer let you save the .gif's, but mine only allows me to save it as .bmp. So something is wrong with mine. How can I fix this then?

Try clicking on my avatar and (Save Picture As...). It's a .gif and should allow you to save it as one. If not I really don't know. Try updates for your browser or try saving the entire web page or something. Or try looking in your Temporary Internet Files since it should be saving all those anyway as you surf around.

I had this problem,

clear out your temp folder

it works like a treat!

what browser are you using? if it's IE go to

tools>internet options

it should have a place or section that says temporary internet files
click delete files to clear the cache out and delete the files

then see what happens next time you try to save a pic, it should be back to normal

this normally happens when your memory cache is full , if this doesnt work let me know, but I guarantee it worked for me 100% no problems.

The above advice is good...but as one mentioned:

try looking in your Temporary Internet Files since it should be saving all those anyway as you surf around.

It's already saved, you just have to move it... Sounds like a good cleaning out of the temp files may be in order as a start.

Do you have any graphics software installed? It's possible that the file type associations have gotten mixed up, particularly if you've got more than one application of this type installed.

If this is the case, check the settings on each app, and ensure that at least one of them is set as the default application for each file type .GIF, .JPG etc.

Another one to check would be to open a window in Windows, My Documents for example, and go to Tools > Folder Options. Check on the "File Types" tab that the .GIF and .JPG extensions have a program or application associated with it. Windows image viewer at the very least.

Hope this helps

Forgot about that stuff...good point.

If all else fails, try re-installing your browser...
