I agree with your point BSB, intention is really all that matters.

Think of it this way, you can be polite to your parents for two reasons:

1. To just be polite
   
2. To get them to give you something you want
   

My belief is that political comedy isn't designed to just be nice and give us something to laugh at, but a diversion for them to get something they want: ignorance to the masses, and a diversion to pursue any act they desire however crooked it could be.

That's what I'm thinking.
