British boxer Frank Bruno was escorted from his home by police and medical crews to a mental home in England.

They reckon he has a drug addiction, if so why take him to a mental home? why not a drug rehab centre? is there some kind of lie to the truth here?

Sorry if this topic has been covered already, just havent visited ATS in days.

They usually do that to people that speak the 'real truth' not the kind normally found anywhere else. Of he is crazy and in that case we have to wonder if he took too many shots to the head.

Agression will land you in the nut house fast I hear.

I didn't rate the guy as a boxer but he is a good role model not just for black Britons but for all Britons.

The news is sad.

What amazes me is that The Sun have spent 20 years making money off of the back of him and then have as their headline "Bonkers Bruno Locked Up". OK they did retract the headline for later editions but someone please tell me why The Sun is the biggest selling newspaper amoungst my fellow countrymen?

Its eems the truth behind this story might be even sadder - according to some journo interviewd on BBC Radio 2 today - it seems he has been in a state of depression since his wife left him - and some former colleagues had a business deal or some such go bad. It seems they cant talk about that side right now due to I guess possible court proceedings.

But the saddest thing spoken by this guys was that "he (Bruno) would shake maybe 5000 hands in a day but had maybe really only 3 or 4 close friends" (I paraphrase - was driving so didn't have much time to note the exact words)

As some one who knew him only at a distance - through a friends father - I can only say what a nice guy I believed him to be - and no matter my own views on boxing I wish him a speedy and sucessful recovery.

Not wanting to be a 'downer' here, or imply anyone was thinking otherwise...and yes indeed this is a sad story...but its a 'sad story' for every single person (and their friends and families) who finds themselves afflicted with a Mental Illness...simply because the guy is a high profile star does not, at the end of the day, make his illness any more deserving of sympathy than anyone else in the world.

This is not to minimise the impact of what he and family/friends are experiencing...just more to shed light upon the millions and millions of those who, because they are not famous, seem to remain in the shadows.

If anything his fame may help bring about more informed awareness of Mental Illness.

Peace,
ALIEN
