Last night (Thanksgiving) I was coming home from my parents about 6:00 p.m. down I79 South from Mercer PA to Pittsburgh, about a 60 mile trip. I noticed about halfway home a extremely bright light in the sky southwest, I immedietly thought it was a plane or something usual, maybe mars or jupiter. I ruled those out because this was very large and bright, and it move west about ten degress west very slowly... took about 15 minutes. I actually got off at the Cranberry Pa exit to get a better look at it because it was so bright and had changing intensity. I know there are some people from the area who post here or if any reports of bright lights in the Western PA area.

I noticed it to, here in Ohio. It was the planet Venus.

I am not sure why it was so brilliant. It must be doing a close approach or it could be due to atmospheric effects. Take another look tonight, if it is clear, it will still be there.

Thanks for the posts everyone, your star chart puts it exactly where i could see it in the sky. As far as its motion It could of been from me travelling in the car. I have been viewing the sky since I was a kid and I have never seen a star or planet so brilliant as I did last night...

ya last night i was taking my grandparents dog out and smokin a cig, and i saw it, so i had my grandpa come out to verify with me that it was in fact venus... im in northwest ohio btw.

I think it is close to earth at this point in its orbit so thats why it was so incredibly bright.
