I too find it hard to support state sponsored death penalty; that being said I'm willing to let the victim or the victims family decide on whether the justly convicted should live or die. Kinda Biblical.

This can't possibly be put up on ATSNN as an article. Its rife with bias and opinion and isn't that two of the things we try to avoid with ATSNN.

Just seems like another attack on America and not the death penalty itself. I would support an oped piece against capital punishment worldwide but this article is none of this.

Gag me with a candy cane.

Most of them seem to be about our own personal feeliings. Very few speak for the victims of these murders or lifetaking crimes. I find this very unusual and telling.
What about the poeple who were killed..murdered...who speaks for them. Are they disposable and expendable so as to put ointment on our personal views or feelings.

How about the poeple who are killed when some of these lifers get parole...do they then get to hit reset on the video game..and start over?Who speaks for this new batch of victims. Are they expendable too.

Oh and by the way ..if these parolees murder again ..do the people on the parole board get jail time or the death penalty??? They certainly contributed to it. Who speaks for the victims???
What on earth can some of you possibly be thinking.

The deterence is that these convicted people dont get to kill again.

One more thing...for those of you who like to dwell on sex crimes and put them in the same category as murders...the statistics on sex crimes dominantly indicate that the chances of rehabilitation in the arena of sex crimes is very low among hard core offenders.

Nevertheless...who speaks for the victims or their survivors..their familys.
Are all these people expendable and disposable in order to put ointment on our personal feelings???

Thanks,
Orangetom

let me put it this way...

You dont under the guise of intelligence or mercy ..establish a system that clearly sends the message that crime and criminal/immmoral behavior pays.

Only education can get a people this dumb.

The sad thing about the American system of justice and the Death penality, is here you get the best justice money can buy. The people that die at the hands of the state are usually dirt poor. If you happen to be wealthy in this society and thru some fluke get convicted; you get to spend your time in a facility more akin to a retreat or summer camp. If you're poor it's off to the pen.

I'm poor so I watch my Ps & Qs. I think this is what the man had in mind.

I think the death penalty is necessary to weed out the scum from our society. Why support them with our tax paying dollars, as they lounge around in prison? As for rehabilitation, there is a difference between a serial killer, and, as someone said, a teenager robbing a convience store with a hairtrigger gun, but as for self-confessed murderers....kill them. And while Im at it, why not start gassing child molestors?
