Thats very true.

Microsoft felt that they lost alot of ground to Sony last Gen by putting their system out so far after the PS2 and they vowed to not be second to Sony out of the gate this time around.

I already know there plan for when PS3 comes out. Dont be shocked if Halo3 comes out right before PS3 launches. I dont know how effective that will be though. I personally would have launched Xbox 360 and Halo3 at the same time, give the fanboys what they want. They didnt really buy a 360 to play Perfect dark or Kameo

I think Sony may have the advantage being second to MS. It will come with a Blu Ray player at a much cheaper price then a standalone unit. The content on the HD has the potential to be great. Sony can put a few movies on the HD, some music aswell. They can copy MS live for online play, and add the ability to download any Sony movie or album ever made. It will also be more powerful. If the PS3 can launch with some great titles, like MGS4, Gran Turismo 5 or god willing a next gen GTA, Sony will cruise to another dominate gen.

I'm kinda reserving my judgement on the PS3 till I see some more concrete launch info, such as date and price. BlueRay is definately a smart move on Sony's part (MS was stupid for not at least including HDVD), but the pricing of the unit is gonna be crucial. You know MS is gonna lower the price of the 360 to at least $50 below PS3's MSRP (if they have a brain in their head). No matter how it goes down it should be a very interesting fight between the two.

Even though I'm more interested in the 360 right now, I hope the PS3 is the powerhouse Sony claims it to be. I know that Sony made a lot of bold claims about the PS2 pre-launch that were a load of crap. After the rootkit fiasco I trust Sony about as far as I can throw them.

Not that I'm a MS fanboy, I'm not buying a 360, I only plan to buy one or the other. I just wish Sony would give us a date so I can see how long I have to wait to decide.

O man that would be sweet. I can still remember seeing the first screen shots of GTA3 in a gaming magazine just 3 pictures but to see it in 3D and after being a huge fan of GTA2. It was just crazy and when I first got it home man its was such a amazing leap from GTA2.

Im positive they are going to make one for PS3 its such a huge money maker and can very well be a system selling game.

There will be a lot of people w/ a 360 sitting in their living room that will take a wait and see attitude w/ the PS3. I'm sure it will have a great launch, but I doubt folks will be shelling out 4X MSRP or more for a PS3 when there will be a multitude of 360's on the shelf by then.

The launch of the PS3 will be not different. All the people buying 1st day 360's are hardcore gamers. The same hardcore gamers will be in the lineups when PS3 is launched. PS2 wasen't the first system launched last gen either, the Dreamcast was. Then the PS2 launched and killed the Dreamcast and went on to sell 90 million units.

The PS2 was hard on the Dreamcast, but I would argue that the rampant pirating of games had a lot to do with the failure of the DC. Crap you could copy most DC games w/ a cd burner!

As far as the PS3 launch goes, only time will tell...If Sony's true to form, it will be out for 3-6 months in Japan before being released here. If the reviews don't show it owning the 360 (which may not be the case w/ 1st gen software), even the hardcore gamers won't be as interested.

The PS3 definatly has the hardware potential to stomp the 360, the question is can the developers unlock that potential with 1st gen games on a system that is reportedly hard to program for? The fact that Sony is being so closed mouthed during the 360's launch is kinda strange too. If I was them I would be flooding the gaming sites with game footage and screen-shots to take some of the wind out of MS's sail.

Ok, now for a segue:

I used to be really impressed by older systems with cool graphics. The "big step" systems were things like going from the SNES to N64, and the Playstation, etceteras. Those allowed for changes in the nature of the games, the amount of stuff you could do and the different kinds of games.

However, the thing is that these new systems aren't offering any innovative new gameplay. It's the same driving games, shooting games, RPG games, sports games, etceteras. It's the same gameplay with better graphics.

IT'S BORING.

I want unique gameplay. I don't care about graphics if there isn't good gameplay, replay value, and innovation and creativity in the game.

Get a DS then and you can rub, blow on a screen raise a little Nintendog etc.. DS is all about innovative. Then you will have the Nintendo revolution controller comming out which is full of innovation

It will likely be the weakest system power wise but it should be full of innovation

Sony CEO Howard Stringer says a spring 06 launch. That may end up being only Japan, but it is known that Sony wants to do a worldwide launch.

Developers have commented on how the PS3 is easier to program for then the PS2. AFAIK the only people to say the PS3 is difficult are Gabe Newell and John Carmack, both PC developers and both have wined about how multicore is to hard to program for. They better get used to it because it is the future.

no...

the xbox 360 just shows that the consumer is stupid, as they should have waited a few weeks for reviews of the system...

then, they would have seen that there are huge problems with the system...

but no, they had to pre-order it months in advance for $600-$800...

Just to be fair the problems being reported are from a very small (but vocal) portion of early adopters. News stories on both ABC news and Gamespot pointed out that the number of consoles w/ problems being reported is actually below the number expected with a piece of hardware like this.

Keep in mind that both the PS2 and PSP had hardware problems out of the gate, and both were released elsewhere (Japan) first. You can expect 1st generation PS3's to have hardware problems as well.

I do agree that it's kinda stupid to buy your console on day one though.
