I don't think anyone is seriously blaming the driver although one has to wonder what truly happened. But surly you all can see that tactics such as mentioned above are behind this type of incident. It is terrible and it is hard for me to accept as a father but I try to see beyond the action itself and look more to the cause. Just saying we shouldn't be there to begin with isn't solving the problem, our troops are there and until we can get
them home I am afraid these types of things will happen again. I am not trying to justify what happen, I am only trying to understand why?

I am blaming the driver. If I went anywhere with my child (I have one), especially in a warzone in Iraq, I would be very, very cautious no matter where I drove. Despite constant left wing efforts to report otherwise, our soldiers are not over there indescriminatly killing people.

I also like the sarcasm in the "if you had read shakespeare" comment. Shakespeare wrote tragedy, some even say defined it in his work. I would rather read the Art of war again than that dribble people exploit as 'masterpiece'. You state it as if someone reading Shakespeare is more informed about world events and war. Very comical.


Remember, For every tear jerker such as this, there is a school that opens and a new market selling goods to the people of Iraq.

Take it from a vet, it's just war. It seems most people have this clean black and white view of combat and that is just wrong. The term "fog of war" perfectly describes what goes on. Soldiers in combat are scared, tired, stressed. They do not always make the right decision. Instincts and training can often over-ride what civilians would call common sense. Soldiers do not operate on common sense, they use their training to react to life threatening situations. Please try to remember this when judging troops.

Ask yourself about intent. Did these soldiers intend to kill civilians. No way. Do terrorists and "insurgents" intend to kill innocents. Definately.

Raid, I don't think we will hear from the troops, a few months ago new rules were made that all news had to come out of the one spot for military stuff in Iraq. I think it was to save on false reports.

I do hope Donegal that you were not accusing me of hinting anything subversive. My article stated facts from three different sources, and gave both sides of accounts. The only thing my comment contained was a dig at the blame of the incident on Zarqawi.

On one side we have the people involved and the Iraqi police.. on the other side of it we have the USA military. Who's right who is wrong... Only those that were there know but does that mean because we don't have the full story as yet it can't be reported on? Because if that is the case then not much news would make it around here.

Maybe I misunderstood it when you said that maybe al Zarqawi would not be blamed for everything in Iraq any more. If that is so, I apologize. And no, I don't think the news should not make it to us. I do wish that it was sent with both sides instead of each side competing for space on the front page, you know? No harm, no foul.
