I was wondering if any of you on this discussion forum has received any phonecalls like the one I've been receiving for about three months. Tonight my telephone rang. When I answered, the only thing I heard on the other side were some strange bleeps within an interval of about a second.
When I came back one night from a two month familyvisit in Morocco, I checked if I had gotten any voicemail messages. I noticed that I had been called 3 or 4 times by the same number, because I heard the same sound over and over again. At first I thought my telephonecompany had erased my voicemail, but now Now I'm pretty certain that it wasn't my phonecompany who replaced my new voicemailmessages with this strange bleeping sound.
It's a bit disturbing, because I've never received any phonecalls of this type since I've been visiting this bulletinboard on a daily basis. Anyway, I'll see if I can trace the number. I surely hope it isn't the NSA tapping my phone

Someone thinks your phone number is someone's fax number. That's probably a fax machine trying to connect.

Was it a series of rapid, multiple bleeps occurring at each 1 second interval, with different notes composing each bleep?

Was there a reverb/echo that was audible in the intervals?

Could it possible that family is trying to call you from Morocco via a satellite link?

This most likely a "blast-fax". This is a random number dialer which treats every number it dials as a fax. So it will go through an area code and prefix generating numbers and each one that answers it will ping for a fax pong. If no pong happens, it hangs up and generates the next number.

If a fax does pick it up, it then sends an advertisement for the services being marketed.

I'd also have to go with the fax machine option. also, it could be worse. the only calls I get on my landline phone are people mistaking my number for Circuit City and telemarketers.

Over here we have had a spate of calls like that reported to Local Radio shows. Most times the conclusion was that these are ofton ATM/Vending type machines where the installer has key'd the wrong number in for the base station (they periodically report back status / loading / refil requests ) . Not sure if that helps.

I think that is exactly it.

You guys are probably right. It's probably a faxmachine and I'm just being paranoid. I'm going to buy a new phone with a numberdisplay today so I can trace the calls.

The ones that you can't trace are the calls you have to worry about.

Those are very likely to be telemarketing calls. That no trace feature is something you can buy for a commercial account.

One who allows their perceived barriers to control their very beliefs and opinions is in need of assistance. If you disregard the concepts that occur to you and disturb your balance, you are afriad of only yourself. I can see two choices:

1)Allow development of paranoia and worry over an unproveable source for your phenomena and live by fear which restricts freedoms and personal growth.

2)Ignore the phenomena that are inexplicable as you can only offer speculation without proof or truth as self realized or discovered. If you indulge personal hindrances you allow decay in your being. I am not using fear based taunts as the things I say I mean when I say them. If I offer help to another and they react negatively I can know they have misconceived my motive, which is to help others who may not be as enlightened. I offer from the heart and am conquering any old shy habits that now allow me to speak my mind with confidence. If one can sit and be comfortable with all their own thoughts, they know the strength that canbe attained. If someone lips me off I know it is because they do not understand. I offer one clarification alone. If I find the person requires a level of explanation that dilutes the original miscommunication from salvage then I must accept their disposition and walk away. The biggest, meanest guy with tatoos,
and fear based threats has built the biggest defence against it they can. I mean only to apply metaphor not generalize people who like ink. The moment a person cares not for how they are viewed, but allows only positive emotional exchange, is the moment one can marvel at enlightenment and growth. No offence intended good fellow. If everyone hides the truth even to themselves then they lose out. Simple.
