Scientology and Comedy Central

I watch a lot of Comedy Central and the last two days there have been two stories on Scientology.

On Wednesday South Park did a whole episode on it.

On Thursday Daily Show With Jon Stewart had an segment about Tom Cruise and talked about Scientology.

On South Park the explained what Scientologist believe that Alien Souls are roaming the Earth for the last 75 million years.

Any way are there any Scientoligist that would care to dispute what was said on South park, or did anyone else see the episode to know what I am talking about.

In closing, I really would like to know more about what is up with Scientology.

Well, aside from a few comedic blurbs that the South Park writers threw in that little explanation of what Scientologists believe, it's pretty dead on.

The odd part is that in order to even gain that information through a Church of Scientology, you have to devoted several years and many dollars to having yourself cleansed of "thetans", so most Scientologists probably don't have the foggiest as to where their religion is ultimately leading them.

You know, after the whole Dianetics craze really took off, that was what pretty much sealed it in my mind that no religions can be taken seriously until more finite evidence is presented to us. It's as though everyone is at a horse track and betting their lives on whether or not their horse will win when it comes to religion. Sure, some seem plausible because they've won popular approval (they've also been responsible for the conquering of other nations and wholesale slaughter of millions) but they still lack any real evidence for their claims other than what people have written down as their interpretation. See the Bible, Qur'an, Torah, or a McDonald's placemate for example.

D'oh, veering off track here. But yes, there is a bunch of truth to that episode.

When I was younger I was tempted into reading Dianetics, thank God I didn't.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I have read that L. Ron invented Scientology to win a bet, where the best was that he couldn't invent a new religion.

It's mind-bogglingly easy to see how stupid a new faith system is when it's contemporary, but for some reason, we lose that ability if it happens to be well established, as if age alone or number of adherents should make it more respectable.
