Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Yep. Pretty clear that Jesus was there.

And jic u missed where Jesus is said to be the Word

Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I love John 1

Who was the Word?

Jesus.

I see, so Jesus wrote Genesis. :shk:

Yes. "Before Abraham was. I AM.

Jesus created the world.

Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

If Jesus IS the Word, then Jesus IS Genesis.
Scripture is the bread of life.

Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Moses merely (hehe) wrote it down. IT was given by God

That explains why it is written with god in the third person.

Of course it mentions God as a third person. Jesus Himself does it when He refers to the 'helper'.

by "third person" he meant grammatically...
God isn't saying "I... We.. Us..." (for the most part)
Moses recorded it in the third person "he/ she/ it... they..."

When the Torah is refering to YAHVEH... (in English) it says "the LORD said... or the LORD did this...
instead of "I...

Hey SeaWater:

Try this translation from an Aramaic reworking of the poetic parallelism implicit in the poorly spouted Greek placed into the mouth of R. Yehoshua bar Yosef the Galilean ("jesus") in Matt 7:6

"Do men hang their Rings (Qedeshot) on dogs' [ears]
or drape their Pearls around swine's [necks]?

Will not they trample them under their [feet]
and [re]turning, attack you with them?"

I think you're getting the Aram. Qedeshot ("ringlets") mixed up with Kodeshot ("holy things"): it certainly confused the Greek writer of Matthew, so your in good company !

And your point of the mis-quotation was.....???!!

my point:

[re]turning, attack you with them?"

...that is exactly what you did. and that other guy.

the Greek translator/writer/whatever you want to call him was NOT confused. HE probably had the Holy Spirit. Seeing as he understood the parable.
You, my friend, are the one confused
though you don't even know it

Hey Under SeaWater:

I guess the Holy Spirit doesn't know how to translate 1st century Palestinian Aramaic into Greek very well then...or into Shakespearean (or modern) English for that matter...

Perhaps he/she/it needs to go back to school?

Unless it's all in your head. Try taking a Greek class...it might open your eyes to some of the nuances that seem to be beyond you...

And as for calling people on these threads "dogs", I believe the moderators have a method to their madness on this subject...

well. in that case i'll be shaking the dust from my feet.
I'm not the Holy Spirit. Its not my job to convict you of sin.

Tell me...if you agree that the dogs represent mockers...
...what do the pearls and ringlets represent?

spamandham got one of my WATS votes; NEOAMADEUS got one, too!

OK, so now that I've buttered you up a bit, can I have that Bertrand Russell quote for my sig? It's perfect!

OK, I just went ahead and stole it.

It really does sum up nicely what the scholars here have to put up with from the "blind faithers" - they don't even recognize or appreciate the years/decades of work that goes into understanding what their bible ACTUALLY says...or, maybe I should say what their bible said in its original version before it was corrupted through theology and dogma (along with a heaping helping of politics).

(BTW - I do not consider myself a scholar but I can recognize them when I encounter them.)

There is a customary donation of course.

I wish it were my own rather than his though, even though he did steal one of mine. I used to find it so clever to say "Most people would rather die than think" until I discovered Russell had coined "Many people would rather die than think".

However, this was just a deception on his part knowing what I would eventually say it, to try to fool the elect of spamianity.

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

I think the term scholar is used way to loose and given too much weight. So much so, that it doesnt mean anything anymore.

It would seem to me that those who feel most strongly about the bible would welcome and embrace the research being done to reveal more precisely what the original texts contain. I am deeply disappointed by those who reject, without any scholarship of their own, any of these revelations that do not agree with what they learned in Vacation Bible School.
