A newspaper in Greenland are going to print the cartoons as well. They don´t expect any big riots though, as they believe there is only one muslim there...

My good friend, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the Irani guy I am portraying as avatar, says; "Misguided muslims are the reason, that there is communicated a misconcepted and dark picture of the belief of justice, love and brotherhood."

Thumbs up for this brave stance, from the ever fundamentalistic, yet moderate, Grand Ayatollah, who is to be an example of fortitude and wisdom!

first off, depiction of the prophet or allah is considered a sin in islam. top that off by making a charicature or the prophet with a bomb for a turbin, and you've got one hell of an offensive "joke"...

First of all, the muslims have repeatedly offended other religions. If you had follwed this thread entirely you would have seen examples of Mulsim cartoonist depicting Jesus and God in a number of demeaning, blasphemous ways. If some people can't take a joke, they ought to stay in the house - away from other people.

Originally posted by madnessinmysoulif you're a christian, would you like to see jesus being depicted slaughtering and raping the aboriginal people that were raped and slaughtered in his name? would you like to see the virgin mary depicted as a prostitute giving out sexual favors to the pharisees?

I am a Christian and I have seen such cartoons and read such language from the Muslims. I didn't throw stones at them. I did not burn flags. I did not protest their embassies nor did I call for the death of anyone for such egrarious acts. In short, I exercised tolerance of their ignorance becaue I believe in FREEDOM OF SPEECH!

it is a HUGE deal for muslims, so don't be that intolerant. if the USA got as offended as these people got, they'd invade the offending country.

I have been nothing but tolerant. When the terrorists brought down our towers and killed thousands of Americans, again, I did not throw rocks, I did not burn flags, I did not torment them in the streets. Nor did I call for the deaths of thousands of innocent people. I did not blanket the entire muslim world with stereotypes because of what a few of them did. This, however, demonstrates to me that they are all hypocitical, intolerant, uneduacted and frankly, STUPID! Your claim that we incvade countries that offend us rings hollow - can you name one? I think not.

I understand that there were misinformation and exaggerations that made the situation worse. But the point is that publishing any picture of Muhammad is offensive to Muslims:

Let's get something straight here. Number 1, I didn't give a rat's ass what offends Muslims. Apparently they don't care what offends me. Killing thousands of innocent Americans offends me. Calling for the death of all of my fellow citizens offends me. Calling me an infidel offends me. Telling me that my religion is wrong and Islam is the only true religion offends me. Telling me that I must live under sharia offends me. And most importantly, the fact that they don't shower, wear deoderant and don't brush their teeth offends me! I have been tolerant of their beliefs. I allow them to have their beliefs without prejudice - until now. I have had enough!

May the feces of a miliion pigs rain down upon Mecca!

AFP reports, Demonstrators from both - the far left and extreme right are on the road today, Saturday in Copenhagen to add to the uproar over cartoons of the Prophet Mahommed.

It seems to be that trouble is predistined then?

AFP

Leftist anti-racist activists were due to start their protests at 1:00 pm (1200 GMT) northeast of Copenhagen while the extreme-right Danish Front was to start its own march an hour later from the same spot.

The leftist demonstration had been organized by SFU, the youth wing of the Socialist People's party, and could well include "troublemakers", police spokesman Flemming Steen Munch told AFP.

"We expect activists of the anarchist type and troublemakers to appear in this demonstration," he said.

The extreme-right organizers called for demonstrators to march calmly, but said that "one can almost expect that the anti-racists are fantasizing about a violent confrontation".

I found something interesting here.

It looks as if those rumours are also fabricated!! Look at this article from the Telegraph

Leading hard-line Muslim cleric Sheikh Yussef al-Qaradawi had called for a “day of anger” - and they also wrote about Mr. Akkari

Day of anger threatened over cartoons of Prophet

Mr Akkari is the spokesman for a group of Danish imams and activists who brought the cartoons - plus three more offensive ones from an unknown source - to the wider attention of Muslims in trips to Egypt and Lebanon. One of the three new cartoons shows Mohammed with a pig s snout.

...that is one of the cartoons the newspaper had NOT published.

And then he adds the "Nazis-might-burn-the Koran" part!!

[Ahmed Akkari] said that a text message had been sent to the mobile phones of young Muslims

telling people not to react to provocations from Right-wing extremists, like burning the Koran, but I know some Muslims will not listen to our message".

Meanwhile, hundreds of Palestinians marched through the streets of Gaza City storming European buildings, burst into the German cultural center in Gaza City, smashing windows and breaking doors and burning German and Danish flags.

They threw stones at the European Commission building, and replaced the EU flag with a Palestinian flag, before police brought them under control.

Dozens of Palestinians storm European buildings in Gaza

In Brussels on Saturday, the European Union called on the Palestinian Authority to protect EU buildings from attack.

"The Commission expects the Palestinian authorities to ensure that European premises are properly protected," the EU said. "The Commission deeply regrets that Europeans who are working to bring a better life to Palestinians should be the subject of such attacks."

In the arbish section of Hebron/ WestBank, Palestinians marched to the headquarters of the international observer mission there, burned a Danish flag, and demanded a boycott of Danish goods.

No, we do not have to do either of these. There is no law requiring respect of other people or of their beliefs.

Now talking about the excuse of freespeech. tell me .. can any newspaper in America or Europe show a picture of star of David burning on Fire.

I don't know about Europe's laws (I think anti-semitism is against the law) but in the USA you sure can.

Or what will happen if some newspaper in some country publish a cartoon that show Jews praying for Satan ...

In the USA, you sure can. Some people wont like it, some may lose their jobs, but it's NOT against the law.

What happened in Denmark is in fact anti-Islam ..

Yes, it is, but so what? Every race, religion, country, sex and class has people who don't like them or respect them. It's the way it is. And in the USA, it's NOT against the law.

We have free speech. That includes the freedom to say anything, even if someone is offended.

Special news coverage on danish national tv - The norwegian embassy is also supposed to be under attack.

No danish embassy people has come to harm - The building was empty. The syrian government supposedly did nothing to stop the demonstration which escalated out of control. The demonstration supposedly started when it was reported that SMS messages in Denmark circulated, that the Koran was being gonna be burned in front of the City Hall of Copenhagen. The 'funny' part is that a peacefull muslim demonstration was taking place at the time!

I would NOT say that Denmark is an anti-islam country - On the contrary!

Every single time someone from any religion is offended, the media always take the case and makes sure that everyone hears about it, so the politicians is forced to make some kind of rules for/against whatever is wrong. This is no different whether or not you are a muslim or a christian.

Yes we are a christian country, but you cant blame us for having it as our primary religion.

Just to clarify... I wasn't suggesting that Denmark is "anti Islam". I was responding to the statement that what happened in Denmark (the cartoons) was anti-islamic.

This is the only bit about the Copenhagen riots I see in the English speaking press right now:

usatoday
But in Copenhagen, young Muslims clashed briefly with police after they were stopped from boarding a train to go to a demonstration north of the Danish capital. Some of the roughly 300 demonstrators threw rocks and bottles at police but no one was injured, officials said.

Ahhh.. The power of short quotes..

Im discussing this issue right now with some friends.. Im not sure it was anti-islamic to bring those pictures - They were merely the opinions of the designers of the drawings.

True. I think it really depends on the meaning of "anti-islam". Was it the intention of the cartoonist to specifically ridicule the religion? I don't think so. So in that sense, they are not Anti-Islamic.

Or was his intention to make a cartoon that would make a statement and therefore get himself some recognition (which is the goal of many politcal cartoonists), knowing that it would probably offend Muslims? I think that's more likely. So in that sense, they do sort of 'pick on' the Islamic religion and so therefore could be considered anti-islamic.

In the end, I don't think it matters. People are always going to be offended whether it's meant to offend or not.

Great discussion about this very subject (taking offense, political correctness, respect, freedom of speech and how they all collide) in the My Rights VS Your Rights PODcast.
