I think there going to sell a lot of 787's, its a very well thought-up plane...every thing you can ask for out of a modern plane...its has...all but speed anyway.

Air Canada had previously placed an order for the planes albiet not as many. The order was canceled whent hey had labor issues. This order is for many more, but unless the orders are firm, anything can happen. The mix of planes fits nicely with Air Canada's routes, and I do not think they fly the 747 so I don't think they would have the load factors requring a A380 at this point.

Nice... The 787 is clearly aiming at victory... A the pros said, the 787 would win the A380... And that's what's happening now...

well i hope the planes are well made.there has been alot of deaths from those planes this year worldwide.i hope they inspect the safety on these flying bricks lol........

i dont believ they have any 747's either. a neighbor of mine is a pilot for AC. never said anything about 47's to me. their biggest problem with pilots is when they merged with canada air and the seniority of pilots. a lot of disgruntled pilots over that

Victory? 'win the A380' ? ( I presume you mean 'beat the A380' as you 'beat' an opponent but you 'win' a prize, yes?)

If we are talking outright sales then I have no doubt that the 787 will sell more, after all you need more of them to shift the same number of passengers do you not?

The 787 and the A380 are not in competition witrh each other, so surely there can be no 'victory' either way?

The only victories can be measured against like types, A380 V 747A and 787 V A350, surely?

Thats alot of planes. I as thumbing through last weeks AWST, and aparently Boeing said that they would get thier production slots back. But since this order is bigger, Im not sure if it includes the increased orders as this news came after the article.

In a side note there was an article about the RR Trent 1000 being on schedule. If Boeing go foreward with the 787-10 it would need a 80K thrust class engine and the RR engineers seem to think no problem.

they are firm. from german airline? it was in the seattle pi. and china is unconfirmed buying 70 737's.. this will make boeings best year ever in total number of planes sold


this was just posted on seattle pi's web site. the china order may be up to 150 planes. but UAE airlines is expected to order 42 trip 7's.

to date 733 planes ordered. closing in on 1000 but probably wont see that

I knew that Emirates were also a customer for the A380 but I was surprised to see that they have bought 45 of them, that is a lot for a plane of that size I was also surprised that, with a current fleet of 83 aircraft they have an outstanding order book for 132!! I guess they are a confident airline!

45 A380's plus 42 777's is a hell of a lot of seats to fill.

Just some info on the current scene at Airbus.

The A400M and A350 use composite wings, which have never been used (at least on commerical aircraft) before. Apparently Airbus expected them to cause trouble, but not quite as much trouble as they have caused.

So the long term plan is for the A400M and A350 to be 'failures' in a commerical sense, but to lay the knowledge base for future design processes which will result in much more efficient aircraft.


Boeing have went for the conservative approach, and are going for short-term gain over possible longer term pain. Although, I suppose some of the work being done by Airbus now will eventually filter over the Adlantic to Boeing and reduce their future composite 'teething problems'.

TOULOUSE, France --- A new variant of the successful A340-500/600 Family took to the skies today during a four and half hour maiden flight over Toulouse as part of 6-month certification campaign.

The new A340-500/600 will offer customers greater range and a higher maximum payload compared to its nearest competitor. It is equipped with the latest development of the Rolls-Royce Trent 500 engines and benefits from technology developed for the A380, including new manufacturing techniques such as laser beam welding.

Typically seating 380 passengers in three class comfort, the new 380-tonne long-range A340-600 will be able to travel up to 7,900 nm (14,600 km) carrying the same number of passengers 250nm farther. The first aircraft of this type will be delivered to Qatar Airways in the summer 2006. The A340-600 has already attracted interest from Middle East-based airlines in particular Qatar, Emirates and Etihad, as well as Lufthansa and Virgin Atlantic in Europe. Middle Eastern airlines are keen to deploy this longer range aircraft from their Gulf hubs to North America.

AC was the first to have the 747-100 in Canada and flew them on long hauls from 1971 to 1998. Also on the site www.aircanada.com... they don't have the 747-400 under current use but under historical fleet they have it as still flying.... weird. If anyone knows for sure about the current AC 747's that would be cool.

yeah, If you had a city like Dubai that is just exploding off the map you would be making sure that everyone who wants to come can come.

they are doing it right with their oil revenues. after watching the NGC program on just one of the palm islands even I want to visit.
