Vancouver's ruling civic party is putting some distance between itself and the comments of one of its candidates.
COPE City Councillor Tim Louis told The Vancouver Sun he's in favour of opening a city-owned brothel to help women trapped in the sex trade.
The comments came out of a meeting between Louis and members of the Vancouver Sun editorial board. Thursday morning they were splashed across the
paper in a bold headline.
COPE says Louis was expressing a personal opinion – and not party policy.

The mayor also thinks that the best way to help these women is to break their addictions and put a roof over their heads.
I'd have to agree. These women are victims of the illegal sex trade and need help.
