A 20 year old man is charged by the FBI in Los Angeles California, Thursday, after selling hackers access to his botnets and planting adware in thousands of computers throughout the country.

LOS ANGELES - A 20-year-old man accused of using thousands of hijacked computers, or “bot nets,” to damage systems and send massive amounts of spam across the Internet was arrested on Thursday in what authorities called the first such prosecution of its kind.

Jeanson James Ancheta, who prosecutors say was a well-known member of the “Botmaster Underground” — or the secret network of computer users skilled at bot attacks — was taken into custody after being lured to FBI offices in Los Angeles, said U.S. Attorney’s spokesman Thom Mrozek.

Alls I can say is WOOHOO! I am sure I am not the only victim here. The spyware and Adware that is running rampant needs to be stopped. Just think, this little creep will wind up doing 50 years for doing this, if he faces the maximum penalty. Maybe companies will think twice about soing this sort of thing again. I also think that instead of him taking all the blame, some of the marketing agencies employing these types of tactics should also be made accountable.

Hahaha! Thank god they got one of these creeps. I just found 297 adware and spyware programs on my pc. They should go after the companies who hired him as well, though. After all, if they didn't pay him, then he would'nt have kept doing it in the first place

That's also your fault though, YOU are responsible for YOUR PC.

No need to sound crass there
Even if your proactive with software protection, it still happens. IE how the Pentagon was compromised. DOD security is pretty tight, ask any military IT specialist.
Agreed to some degree it is my fault, I surf the web, but still, why should I have to have MY pc imposed upon if I haven't given explicit approval. Even if you use the most UTD spyware programs and are completely diligent in your pc scans, it still happens. Before you continue yes I do read EULA's.

And even with Norton, it's only detects viruses AFTER they are on your pc

And if you have windows XP upon visiting certain websites, you do have to click the active x control to continue.

Ah Windows, isn't it great? Viruses, Adware, Spyware, Bot's.... man do yourselves a favour and get a real business computer from IBM. Do you know the IBM AS/400 (or iSeries) machines have NEVER had a virus? Thats right. None. Zilch.

That's because they were designed properly by a company that's been making computers for 50 years, and guess what; IBM know what they're doing.

No I don't work for IBM, have shares in IBM or anything like that, I just appreciate a well-designed, secure system. Microsoft Windows is a very long way from being that.

Ill tell you, The more and more I work with XP the more Im starting to hate it... WTF SP2 wont let me do anything without checking with it first. I resent this. I know yesterday I tried uninstalling it, and not only did I have to do system restore to get back before I removed it, but none of my durn progs worked either. I couldnt even get explorer to open. F windows!
