This is filmed in IR there are no shadows to be seen.

This is dreamed-up nonsense.

The shuttle's payload bay cameras are visible-light systems, as all documentation and all testimony by actual experts who used them, shows.

He obviously would be fun to listen to live but all of the time that he is speaking he is probably the only person in the room that has the accompanying mental images. The rest of us ground-bound would have to construct images that may be foreign to his.

Excellent point -- it's why I composed this backgrounder on spaceflight. www.jamesoberg.com...

Even in IR shadows still exist.

That would be me, by the way, and thank you to Jim for informing me of this discussion.

Kind of like meeting a member of your favorite band...

For an astronaut he sure did seem down to earth.

Oh, I think given the choice I'd rather have met Story than a member of my favorite band. It was a very informative and educational experience, and I even got him to autograph my "guitar." That is to say, my telescope's camera:

Actually I would too, as you don't get to meet astronauts like him everyday...Unless your Jim.

Now that is very cool...so are you going to buy another camera so you don't mess up the autograph, as you may never get another one.

I would love to get him in an AMA thread as that would be very interesting and informative.

Unfortunately it's much too expensive for me to buy another one, but I had him sign underneath the handle which provides a certain degree of protection to the autograph; it keeps the foam inside the case from rubbing up against it, and of course I'm extremely careful to handle it when it is outside of the case. I might look into purchasing a replacement back plate if possible though; I've pulled it off before and it can easily be swapped out. I could then keep the signed plate safely stored away while the camera is in use, and still be able to hand it down one day to my kids with the autograph so that they can have what I consider to be a family heirloom. Also, if heaven forbid the camera ever experiences an internal failure of some kind, the back plate signed by Story can easily be swapped onto any other SBIG camera from the same generation (ST-7, ST-8, ST-2000 like mine, etc) since the body parts are fully interchangeable.

Story is even more impressive than at first glance, I had the pleasure of working down the hall from him during early shuttle, we did the serious stuff and pulled the expected pranks. His capacity for work was superhuman.

Nobody is going to tell him what to say or not say. He was hoping every flight to somehow connect with unknown phenomena, he hunted for hints of it.

He enjoys telling his eels narrative, but stresses the bizarre appearance of the two rubber strips he saw to show how unexpectedly unearthly it was in outer space, while not in any doubt they were debris off the shuttles. But he likes to stretch the audience's minds.

Check out Project Prove.

There are strange events from almost every NASA flight. Many of these are even more impressive than the STS 48 stuff.

Have you tried the wayback machine for dead links? It often helps.
