French police and their side arm. Nice choice

Hey all, I took these pictures a few months back. I think it was right before some kind of protest in Paris so there were police everywhere. Yes some of them speak English.

It may be little hard to see their gun on the pics but I was able to get close and see those are Sig Sauger SigPros. and check out their traffic patrol car lol.

Not a bad choice on the side arm they are fine guns. That patrol car looks weak though I always laugh when I see a police chase in a country with cop cars like that and they get pushed around like toys.

When BMW opened its plant in South Carolina, company officials presented a pair of M5 sedans to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Now thats some style for cops two bad they only got two.

German police operates several Porsches, this is one of the newer ones

If you mean the small white patrol car; it's a Renault Clio. I don't know whether your photo is showing a modified Clio, but I do know those cars can be sturdy and fast. They are often used in Championship Rallies. The new standard factory model, for "normal daily use", has five NCAP stars - the highest score that can be get on safety in Europe.

I've only seen German Highway Patrol in BMW's for the unmarked cars and BMW, Mercedes for the painted cars. Lovely to have on come after you. Too bad they had to go stop a truck at all 3 occasions.

I feel like going on a roadtrip.

The French government recently contracted with SiG Sauer to produce an updated version of the SiGPro in 9mm. Essentially it's a standard SiGPro with an accessory rail and is available in the US as the SP2022 (I think) - if you're interested it will be listed on the SiG Arms website.

Nice gun, very under-rated.

I don't want to rain on anyones parade, but when it comes to police cars, Italy wins.

Italy's state police have a sleek new addition -- a Lamborghini Gallardo with a top speed of 309 km/h (192 mph).

I think if I saw this thing in my mirrors, I'd speed up just to get pulled over!

Judging by the description on the front license plate, that particular police patrol vehicle would be better employed as a muck spreader.

Some Diesel cars are damn fast these days. Especially if you get the ECU chipped and rip the CAT out (which you can do in the UK with Diesels).

Yes, the current diesel cars can be quite fast. A standard Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI has a top speed of approximately 126 mph, well suited for the average speed chases I think.

Lamborghini had indeed donated a Gallardo to the Italian police, but I think such a sportscar is not very well suited for the police. The car is very fast for the highways, no doubt about that. But what if the chased culprit goes off the highway and off the road? Not to mention that we here in Europe often have those intentionally built bumps on our streets to force drivers to drive less than 20 mph. A sportscar will have more difficulties to take those bumps due to its lower suspension. Furthermore, nowadays there are enough other cars which are powerful enough for highspeed chases but are less expensive than a sportscar. Dutch police used to have Porsche 911's, but they abandoned it for the less expensive Mercedes, Volvos, Volkswagens, Opels and Audis.

Yeah, as one who has spent a little bit of time in Rome, it would be as useful as a punch in the face in the city. However that lovely looking beast is only intended to use on the highways/freeways (Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway is mentioned). It's a beautiful car. Mostly as an emergency response vehicle too. I quite agree with the smaller European cars as inner city cops though. It's not often that there would be a high speed chase through Rome, or inner cities at all. Save the big cars for the proper uses!

Diesels have changed over the past few yaers, you should see that '5' in action,

alright yeah a lambo is sweet as crap for a police car, but in terms of performance, id go with the corvette Z06.

corvette: dispacement: 427 cu in, 500 bhp @6200rpm, 475 lb-ft torque @4800rpm, 0-62:3.7s, top speed 190

gallardo: displacement: 303 cu in, 500 bhp @7800rpm, 376lb-ft@4500rpm, 0-62:4.2s, top speed 192

corvette $: $65,800
gallardo $: $165,900

it would be much more practical to have one z06 per police unit as a high speed chase car than a gallardo. and imo a gallardo is just too flashy for police. it would end up being just a show car for them to show off and whatever.

sorry for double posting but i saw someone say something about when it goes off-road. perfect solution: a rally type car. say, a Ford Focus AWD with a fast engine and improved suspension. it wouldnt be too pricy (still not even as much as a gallardo) and you could chase them even when they go off the road. you could put all-purpose tires on it so that you could drive it on the road and off without screwing up the tires.

I believe the Lamborghini was a donation from the company to the Italian Police, as a sort of goodwill gesture. Don't expect them to be in every unit, I'm sure it's a once off.

Here in Australia, in Victoria in particular a BMW Z3 was used as a kind of public awareness vehicle (used in Operation "Fair Cop") and rewarded safe drivers. I wouldn't expect it to be sprinting down the highway or bounding cross-country any time soon.

Besides all that, here in Aus, police must call off a pursuit if it is getting too dangerous (we don't let them get away, usually the helicopter takes over) after a few incidents with kids joyriding, getting pursued and subsequentially wrapping themselves around trees. For that reason, a Corvette, let alone a Lambo, is absolutely not necessary.
