Chinese President Hu Jintao made a brief long-distance call to two astronauts on the nation's second manned space mission today

Earlier today, China said it was developing selection criteria for women astronauts.

It's great how China, like Russia, is including women to fly in space early in it's program. The U.S. had women in the program early on as well, but they refused to let them fly, unlike the Chinese and Russians.

So, do you think they let women out of the space program because of the discrimination ?....

Obviously must be other reasons, one of them could be because men are more physically resistent/stronger (mentally too, im not talking about intelligence) than women ?

hmm, i feel some ppl will not appreciate what i just said.

I need not say more.

it may not be sexism in the form of "shes a woman she cant fly in space" than qualifications. Th military for a long time did not have women flying, so what was Nasa to do, send up an unqualified person? There was limited room on the capsules Nasa used and it simply came down to qualifications, and women didnt have that because of the military. Sally Ride was a mission specialist, and those didnt come about till the shuttle. Now adays because the military allows women to fly combat missions it is changing, ie Eileen Colleens.

That's BS. The Mercury program had a whole bunch of women training to be astronaughts and one in particular passed all the tests with flying colours better then any of the men.

In 1960, NASA also tested the first female trainees for astronaut duty in the Mercury program. Thirteen out of America's 25 top female civilian pilots (women weren't allowed to be military pilots then) passed the same rigorous testing that male candidates underwent in the Mercury 7 space program. Although all the pilots proved fit to become Mercury astronauts, NASA suddenly canceled its testing of qualified women in July 1961, claiming that they required jet test-pilot training at Edwards Air Force Base. Unfortunately, instruction at Edwards was closed to women. This new requirement ended America's chance to put the first women in space.

It is ironic that unlike her skilled American counterparts, Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to fly in space, was a textile factory worker when she entered the Soviet space program. She had no experience as a pilot and her only qualification was that of an amateur parachute jumper before being trained as a cosmonaut in 1962.

Sexism nothing more and nothing less. It's funny the Russians didn't see it the same way.
