A ex-CIA expert who worked on the "bin Laden Unit" stated that he believes bin Laden is awaiting an unknown future attack on US soil to re-appear to
the media. Michael Scheuer, the former head of the unit, believes bin Laden has remained silent while allowing Ayman Al-Zawahiri to make public
statements in the mean time. Bin Laden's last public statement was made prior to the 2004 US elections in, what Scheuer states, was an attempt to
basically say, this is your last warning.

"As soon as he hits us in the United States again we'll see how important he is in the Islamic world," Michael Scheuer, the former head of the
"bin Laden unit" at the CIA, told AFP in an interview.
Despite his low profile, bin Laden remains powerful, Scheuer said, shrugging off reports that the Al-Qaeda chief was isolated and his communication
network shattered due to a relentless hunt for him.
"We mistake quiet for defeat or irrelevance. And all quiet is disquiet," said Scheuer, a fierce critic of the Bush administration and its "War on
Terror" policy since he left the CIA in November last year.

Mr. Scheuer states the obvious, in that bin Laden would want to take credit for any attack on US soil. What concerns me is his observations in that
bin Laden has remained silent over the course of a year with no edicts or statements made. This deafening silence could be a precursor to an attack
in the sense that no information is going out from bin Laden. I believe any attack that is in the final planning stage would be precursored by a
statement by either bin Laden or Zawahiri that would act as a trigger message or a belssing for the go ahead for an attack. All of this is not new as
statements have precluded almost every attack in the past.
