I've studied Kendo and spent along time swinging real Katanas... a full force chop would shatter the bones in the hand of the poor sucker. It's still heavy, and just the blunt force trama alone would be enough to rupture the skin.
Aside from that, check out post#1706217 on the first page... I went into a bit more detail about exactly what maked the katana such a superior weapon.
