FEMA blames FEMA

As Hurricane Katrina bore down on the Gulf Coast three weeks ago, veteran workers at the Federal Emergency Management Agency braced for an epic disaster.

But their bosses, political appointees with almost no emergency management experience, didn't seem to share the sense of urgency, a FEMA veteran said.

"We told these fellows that there was a killer hurricane heading right toward New Orleans," Leo Bosner, a 26-year FEMA employee and union leader told CNN. "We had done our job, but they didn't do theirs."

It's interesting that they come out and say this three weeks later.

I listen to NPR a lot. I heard this almost right away from "anonymous sources".

It came out today that they were given $26 million to create an evacuation plan for NO in the event of a hurricane, but they spent it on a study of the causeway over the lake, that's now been damaged.

Another report I saw said that since WWII an area the size of Rhode Island has been lost in Louissiana because none of the Administrations too the wetlands reclamation seriously.

"Give us more money, resources and authority, and we'll do better next time!"
