Pardon the lack of links and cited research here, but this is an off the cuff rant and shouldn't be taken as anything more.
I'm tired of bailing out America's leading airlines. I'm tired of bailing out all our vital resources and infrastructure backbone imperatives
integral to the smooth running of a superpower every time our token capitalism "feel good" efforts fail. And capitalism fails constantly. It's part
of the mix. It's integral to competition. That's the point. Run the other guy out of business.
Great! Except when I have to pay for it. Since deregulating the airline industry in 1978, we've seen over 100 of our vital employers and
transportation service providers go bankrupt. Billions in the hole bankrupt. Not a little bankrupt. Losing money every day for close to 30 years.
That's capitalism? That's failure. Abject and total. Experiment over. Many reorganized and bailed out by you and me, and some just gone leading to
more route monopolies and higher costs of doing business.
It's just a joke to continue pretending like this isn't a socialist nation. Top to bottom we are. We deregulate on the surface time and again then
jump right back in at the first sign of trouble and decide we need federal control of security or air traffic control or fuel costs or rates,
employees and profits... over and over and over, but never just admit what we're really doing.
Half-ass regulating.
Just regulate already. No really. It's okay. I know those in power got there by making "regulation" such a bad word they almost can't do it now
without looking like the foundationless fools they really are on the economic front, but so what? Do it. Not the first time the facade of superpower
"conservatism" will reer it's hypocritical "no new taxes" head.
Know why we have debt? This # is expensive. I know it. You know it. Bush, Rush, and everybody at Fox News knows it. Taxes are patriotic. So's paying
your bills. Planning ahead. Not playing games. Not always running a catch up strategy.
Let's just stop fooling ourselves already. We're socialists. Capitalist failure is NOT an option. One way or the other, we all pay for everything
that matters to America. Do it right. If I have to keep paying corporate welfare, I want some accountability to me. I want to be able to throw the
bums out of CEO offices just like I do Congressional ones. I actually want to throw
everyone out right now... from a cruising altitude of
41,000 feet.
Rest in Peace Delta and Northwest. You were both great clients. When I had clients. And there were still clients to be had. "Capitalism..."
Yeah right. Put any bow you want on it, it's still a government run Wal-Mart world.
