Israel: Poisoning or AIDS may lead to Arafat death

GAZA, Sept. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Israeli doctors who have seen the medical report of late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat revealed that the main possibilities that lead to the death of Arafat were poisoning or AIDS, local newspaper Ha'aretz reported Thursday on its website.

According to Ha'aretz webite, the findings in Arafat death report are being published in the edition of an Israeli book "The Seventh War" that deals with the Israeli-Palestinian war.

The webite said that the report didn't reveal about all mystery that surrounded Arafat's death, however, it lists the immediate cause of death as a massive brain hemorrhage.

I remember right after he died, they said it might have been AIDS. And now it's 1 of the 2 most likely causes he died from.

There is the possablity that Arafat was deliberately infected with AIDS via a planted mistress. Goggling Arfafats life dosnt reveal many personal details but given that his wife lived in Pairs Arafat may have looked else where to meet his "needs."

Perhaps - but it's much more difficult to transmit female-to-male than vice versa. Then, even allowing for sexual relations to take place, there's no guarantee of transmission.

Plus, it appears that Helileh didn't exactly say what is being reported....

But Helileh "totally" denied the reports, saying that he didn'tmake such statements to any journalist that Arafat died as a result of being poisoned.

Tinkleflower you are indeed correct its nice to see some logic at work for a change.

"I know that the physicians in Paris found the AIDS virus in Arafat's blood," Dr. Ashraf al-Kurdi, the personal physician of the late Palestinian Authority chairman, says in a telephone interview from Amman. Dr. al-Kurdi, who was kept from joining the Palestinian delegation that accompanied Arafat on his final trip to Paris, does not say where he got this sensational information. To heighten the mystery, he also maintains that Arafat was poisoned and that the AIDS virus that was found in his blood "was injected into his body in order to camouflage the poisoning."

Now the above statement seems bogus to me.
surely if Arafat was poisoned any poison used would have been close to undetectable by forensic science. If Arafat was poisoned I doubt it was by amateurs.

Death by poision is very common in the Middle East. There were many threats on his life, including poisioning.

Maybe someone decided to take him out and just poisoned him. Seems to be a bit more effective than AIDS roulette, as Tinkleflower pointed out.

Oh, hey, on that note--who remembers him donating blood on 9/11? I'd think that would rule out AIDS, or at least call attention to it!

Exactly how do you analyze a confidential report?
The official report listed Arafat's death attributed to a stroke.

As for the possibility of AIDS, infection, or poisoning:

Newly revealed medical records have failed to solve the mystery of Yasser Arafat's death, although they do cast doubt on popular conspiracy theories about poisoning or rumors of AIDS. But the main question - what led to the massive stroke that killed the longtime Palestinian leader - may never be answered.

"Consultation with experts and laboratory tests could not help to find a cause that would explain ... the group of syndromes," the French doctors wrote. The report makes no mention of poisoning or AIDS.

The Times said poisoning was highly unlikely. It noted that toxicology studies done by the French doctors were negative and said Arafat did not suffer extensive kidney and liver damage typical of poisoning.

I'd love to get my hands on his medical records.

Anyway, that's the thing about brain haemorrhages; they can (and do) happen to anyone, at any time, without warning.

The man wasn't in the best of health to begin with though...and then the report also says this:

The biggest unknown is the nature of an infection that appears to have led to the blood disorder DIC, which was never controlled and led to his death.

The French doctors could not determine where in Arafat's bowel the infection was located and what microbes caused it. Food contamination has been mentioned as a possibility.

So, he had a major infection which couldn't (or wasn't) controlled, and that led to DIC...ending up with his death. I suppose the question now is the origin of the infection.

Ah, will we ever know?
