Maria is in red, Ophellia is in blue....

But, an area to watch may be the area in yellow. If you look at the looped sat image on the NHC site, you'll see it's a very circulating low, with an arm all the way up to Maria... This could be our next TD, then TS, and finally Hurricane.

Still too early to tell, but the tropics are anything but quiet.... Just pointing it out, as we're in the HEIGHT of the season...not a lull, despite the recent disaster, so we in the Gulf need to keep on our toes...and aware of what's out there....

Actually I think that's Nate in red, Maria is further northeast.

The rotation is very obvious even in a still picture if you look at the water vapor image instead of the visible satallite image.

May be Nate, sorry about that...since they're just over water and no threat to land, they don't exactly report on them too much... You can see the bottom part of the other storm in the upper right corner....

The main focus though, is on the area in yellow...and yes, the water vapor image is very telling...

It's a tropical wave at the leading edge of african dust and dry air. It had more convection a day or two again, but it's definitely one to watch.

I'm looking at the mass of clouds in the gulf of mexico for possible circulation/development.
